The sun, our star, is a G2 type star with a life expectancy of 10 Billion years. an M4 star, or Red Dwarf, has a life expectancy of over a BILLION years, and most are as old as the Universe itself.

When we look at other Galaxies, they appear smaller than they really are. Why? We only see O and B type stars, which are the largest and brightest stars---and have the shortest lifespans, only about 100 Million years. this means that when we look at Andromeda, we only see the area from where an O-type star is born to where it dies as the Galaxy and stars proccess.
