There hasn't been a new Bond flick in 5 years, what's up with that; did he die or retire or just become politically incorrect?

There will be a new Bond. However, it will be radically changed. They have hired a black actor (I've forgotten his name) to portray Bond.

The last 007 movie was called "Die Another Day", and it was released in 2002.

The next will be called "Casino Royale", a serious version of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel.

The new James Bond has yet to be cast. However it will not be a black actor.

007 will never die, 007 will never retire, and if people think it's politically incorrect, then they shouldn't watch James Bond movies, because the "Bond movie formula" is sound and does not need to be changed or messed with.

Radical changes are unnecessary and unwelcome.

I searched but could not find proof (or rumor even) of that.

All of the news out there (that I could find) seems only to be rumors with nothing definitive about who will be Bond...

Clive Owen hints he's the one

Eon Stay Silent on Speculation

I found the next film is "slated" to be a remake/retooling of Casino Royal but that is also on a fan site only, I cannot find a studio saying anything...

I've heard that Orlando Bloom is in talks to play Bond. I think all these names are just a smokescreen to hide who the real person that will play Bond will be.

Yeah agreed, I deleted a sentence from my last post just before I posted it: "I believe we're getting our chain yanked".

Sure sounds that way. I heard the black actor story on Entertainment Tonight.

The "what about a black actor?" stuff always crops up whenever Bond is being recast. Though I would prefer Bond to be always played by a white actor from the British Isles or perhaps Australia or NZ.

They also always ask "What about a female Bond?" and those people are laughed at for suggesting such a ludicrous thing.

I wonder why no Bond missions involving the War on Terror are being written?, that would seem a better subject for a film than re-hashing Casino Royal imo..

I just saw this from Yahoo (I did a rush "copy & paste").....

British actor Daniel Craig picked as new James Bond

Wed Apr 6, 7:49 AM ET

Add to My Yahoo! Entertainment - AFP

LONDON (AFP) - The producers of the hugely successful James Bond film franchise have chosen British actor Daniel Craig to take over the role of the suave super-spy, a report said.

• Casino Royale - Greg's preview of the Bond film slated for 2006 release

The 37-year-old has been offered a three-film deal by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and is expected to sign up formally in the next few weeks, The Sun newspaper reported Wednesday.

Craig, a tough-looking character actor who has mixed up appearances in many art-house titles with roles in blockbusters such as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", just beat fellow Briton Clive Owen for the role, the report said.

Craig would be the sixth Bond in the official series of films based on the novels by Ian Fleming, following Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and most recent incumbent Pierce Brosnan.

According to The Sun, Owen -- nominated for an Oscar this year for film "Closer" -- had told casting agents he did not want the job, although Broccoli was already favouring Craig.

While Craig remains relatively unknown outside Britain, he is well respected as an actor and also has the necessary reputation for being something of a Bond-esque ladies man, having recently dated supermodel Kate Moss.

Citing an unnamed "movie source", The Sun said that staff working at Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, had been told Craig would star in the next films.

"Daniel is the new 007. He is going through the deal with his lawyers. It's a big commitment for a minimum of 10 years, but he has indicated he will take the job," the source said.

Brosnan's last film as Bond was "Die Another Day" in 2002. Since then a string of possible replacements have been mooted, including Britons Jude Law and Ewan McGregor and Australian actors Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana.

Fleming's novels chronicling the adventures of the British spy codenamed 007 were first turned into a film in 1962, with "Dr No".

I liked Pierce Brosnan as Bond, I think he was the best bond, after Sean Connery of course. I think he could have had another Bond film in him, shame they replaced him, he had wanted to do one more.

I don't approve of this guy they want as the new 007.

If he is cast as 007, I will not be watching any James Bond movies he appears in.

Bond Bosses Stay Silent on Brosnan Rumours

James Bond producers are refusing to confirm actress Dame Judi Dench's claim that Pierce Brosnan will play 007 in Casino Royale, despite being fired from the franchise. Dench, who has played Bond's boss M in the last four films, insists fans shouldn't be expecting a new face, contradicting reports both Clive Owen and Daniel Craig are being secretly groomed as the next spy after bosses sacked Brosnan last year. However, production company Eon are remaining tight-lipped about Dench's revelation. A spokesperson says, "No cast members, locations or release dates can be confirmed." Yesterday British newspaper the Daily Mirror quoted Dench as saying, "Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the earth has been tested as his (Brosnan) possible replacement, he'll be doing it again, and it'll be announced come summer."

From IMDB:

British actor Daniel Craig has added more questions to the James Bond mystery by confirming he has been approached to play 007 in an internet interview. Craig's name has been linked to the superspy for months, but the latest reports suggest Pierce Brosnan will return as Bond for upcoming movie Casino Royale. But Craig tells website Ignfilmforce.Com that the rumors of him being approached to play 007 are true. The Tomb Raider star says, "It was a surreal time to have the studio phoning you up saying you've got the job and then the Broccolis (Bond producers) saying nothing... I just let it go. I'm a big believer that if they want you, you don't want to fight; you want to all be on the same page from the very beginning. I think I would have probably been a bit too radical for it (the role). I don't know what the deal is. There's a lot of rumors floating around. It's not a bad position to be in. If even half of them or a third of them are true, it's not a bad position to be in. I got a text message on my phone saying, 'Congratulations...' That was news to me. (I gather) there's been a move in a lot of people's direction. Possibly it's a way of trying to raise debate. They throw out some names and then people start discussing it and then they can make a decision."

I agree with the comments made about this guy. He just doesn't look like Bond.

From IMDB.com:

McMahon Fears He's Too Old To Play Bond

Australian actor Julian McMahon fears he's missed out on the chance to be James Bond because he's too old. The Nip/Tuck star, 36, confesses he has been among the names on producer Barbara Broccoli's hit list to replace Pierce Brosnan, but he no longer thinks he's in contention to play 007. He tells website moviehole.net, "I think there is a bunch of people who are in consideration with the Broccolis and Sony. I think that they have to define exactly what they want to do with the character, as there were talks of it going younger." And McMahon insists he isn't sure he'd jump at the role if it was offered to him: "If I were offered the role, I would really have to kind of evaluate the way that I would look at the character and see what they want to do with it. I'd want to make sure that we kind met at some place were we all felt comfortable doing the same thing."

seriously. i'm a huge bond fan and have been forever and all these rumours about orlando bloom and hugh jackman and jude law are untrue. they are made by the media so that they have an "exclusive story". they are always denied by eon. just wait for an official announcement.

and alterego Casino Royale is supposed to be released next year.

Oh yeah. And about the black bond. You know that black guy in the Brosnan films named Robinson (played by Colin Salmon). He was trying to convince the producers to let him play Bond. I don't think anyone is going to agree to that. It has nothing to do with political correctness. It would just screw with the series too much and it wouldn't make much sense.
