HRH The KING 0 Posted February 19, 2005 That "band" is a disgrace. An insult to the good name of Star Trek. :P :P

Mike 5 Posted February 19, 2005 That "band" is a disgrace. An insult to the good name of Star Trek. :P :P 304459 You really think that? This is another topic that you and me are going to disagree on I see.. I like them a lot and I wish I lived in California so I could see them perform live..I am a very big fan and post on their message board a lot..They put out fun songs that are Star Trek related..Don't be so serious about everything all the time..Have fun with your trekkiness..Like I do.. :P
Madame Butterfly 0 Posted February 19, 2005 :P :P Is the music naughty like the cover suggests? If so, I better wait to I'm home alone to listen to it!!
Mike 5 Posted February 19, 2005 :P :P Is the music naughty like the cover suggests? If so, I better wait to I'm home alone to listen to it!! 304486 :P It does have some 'adult' lyrics in it. But not in the samples on their web site. You'd have to buy the cds to hear all the colorful metaphors !
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) Have fun with your trekkiness..Like I do.. I regard Star Trek as dignified. It should be treated as the "Elite Franchise". Having a band like that performing songs related to the elite Star Trek is disgraceful. I condemn Paramount for allowing them to use Trek related themes in their songs, using language that would NEVER be heard in Star Trek. Star Trek should be above anything like that. It demeans the franchise IMO. :P :P Edited February 20, 2005 by The King
Mike 5 Posted February 20, 2005 Yeah right..You will never change my mind about this band King..They are fun and I love listening to their music..I'm glad they are able to make these songs and I can't wait to get this next CD and blast it..I don't care what anyone else says..I'm having fun with it... Try to open your mind about this and other ideas. ::thinks back to the Q'onos page:: Even the Star Trek actors poke fun at themselves i.e. Futurama's Where No Fan Has Gone Before. HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 It's called a joke King... Yeah, but some jokes aren't very funny. Even the Star Trek actors poke fun at themselves i.e. Futurama's Where No Fan Has Gone Before. That itself is fine. I have no problem with mild parody because that shows the impact Trek has as entering pop-culture. This "band" I find disgusting and the fact they use Trek terms in their "music" makes me sick. MrPsychic 1 Posted February 20, 2005 It's just a gimmick, like Rob Zombie. He pokes fun at B-rate movies in his music. And most of the music he does takes from the fact that most of the B-rate movies he pokes fun at are horror movies. He's a very educated man, but that music brings in the money. Same with this band, you may hate them, but in the end, you do listen to their music to hear how they use the Star Trek name, don't you?
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 It's just a gimmick, like Rob Zombie. He pokes fun at B-rate movies in his music. Yeah, but I don't care about B-Movies. Star Trek should be treated with the highest respect. Same with this band, you may hate them, but in the end, you do listen to their music to hear how they use the Star Trek name, don't you? No. I listened to the music on their website out of curiosity and was disgusted by what I heard. Not because it's bad language necessarily, but they mix that with Star Trek and to me, that is totally unacceptable.
Mike 5 Posted February 20, 2005 Here is part of the kyrics from the song 'Warp II' from their 'Red Alert' CD.. 'We're as cool as Mr Spock, Cause we live long, prosper and we rock!' How can you not like lyrics like that? And there are plenty more like that also..And yes, some that will probably turn off some hardcore Trek fans..I've been a Trek fan for 30 years and I love this band..Life is too short not to have fun.. LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted February 20, 2005 um, king, its a joke. You know, things that make people laugh... its not supposed to be tooken seriously like you are.(taking it)
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) How can you not like lyrics like that? Those lyrics are fine. But why use profane and vulgar lyrics in their other songs? What purpose does it serve? IMO Trek fans are supposed to conduct themselves in a dignified and intelligent way. These losers conduct themselves like a bunch of morons. And there are plenty more like that also..And yes, some that will probably turn off some hardcore Trek fans..I've been a Trek fan for 30 years and I love this band..Life is too short not to have fun.. I don't think of myself as a "Hardcore" fan. I'm more of an "Intelligent Fan". I can be critical and objective of the franchise itself as you well know. I can also take exception to trash like this. Just because it's associating itself with Star Trek doesn't mean I have to like or accept it. Life's too short not to have fun indeed. But Star Trek is too precious to be associated in any way with these vermin. um, king, its a joke. You know, things that make people laugh... its not supposed to be tooken seriously like you are.(taking it) It might be a joke, just not one I find funny. What's next? Star Trek Porn? Am I supposed to find that funny too? Edited February 20, 2005 by The King
LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted February 20, 2005 IMO Trek fans are supposed to conduct themselves in a dignified and intelligent way. These losers conduct themselves like a bunch of morons so, your saying that all trekkies have to be geeks, is that it?
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 so, your saying that all trekkies have to be geeks, is that it? Since when is intelligence and dignity being a geek? Besides, if that band are considered "cool", I'd rather be a geek.
LordOfTheBorg 1 Posted February 20, 2005 your making your own image of trekkies everywhere, but its not what all trekkies are, im sorry to tell you king.
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) your making your own image of trekkies everywhere, No, I'm not. Star Trek is an intelligent dignified respectful franchise. As I would hope it's fans are too. but its not what all trekkies are, im sorry to tell you king Yes, I can see that. I'm sorry too. IMO Trek fans are supposed to conduct themselves in a dignified and intelligent way. That's boring.. These losers conduct themselves like a bunch of morons. Wrong again..They are not losers..They are producing good music and enjoying themselves.. Life's too short not to have fun indeed. But Star Trek is too precious to be associated in any way with these vermin. Vermin? That's a bit strong isn't it? You don't know them..I can like serious Star Trek and have fun with it too.. HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 Click For Spoiler It's fun and I'm glad they do it. I don't think it's fun. It's just lazy and tiresome. It's meant to shock, and THAT I find boring. That's boring.. No, that's respectable. Wrong again..They are not losers..They are producing good music and enjoying themselves.. Good Music? LOL!!!!! No in my opinion, Mr Tigger. They can enjoy themselves if they choose, but using Trek as the theme for their band and "music" is sickening. Vermin? That's a bit strong isn't it? Nope. You don't know them.. I'm thankful for that. I can like serious Star Trek and have fun with it too.. Lovely
Odie 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) I am going to add my 2 cents into this thread. Star Trek should be open to everyone. It shouldn't matter how they express themselves or show much they like Star Trek. After all Star Trek is just a television show and several movies. It’s not Master Piece Theater. If you don't like the music don't listen to it. Edited February 20, 2005 by Odie
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 Well, I don't have a problem with Warp 11 being Star Trek fans or watching the franchise. It's the context of how they use Trek themes I find abhorrant. If they were just some punk band who "sing" their "songs" using profane lyrics then so be it. But blending that with Trek is terrible IMO.
Mike 5 Posted February 20, 2005 Let me just say one more thing... WARP !!!!
Odie 0 Posted February 20, 2005 Yes, that is your opinion. There are fans that do like their music and there is nothing wrong with it. Star Trek can with stand this, because fan base very wide and open to many people cross a spectrum of the population. No one should be limited on how they express their views on Star Trek. Look at where members on this board are from and what countries that they call home. You’re from Great Britain and I am from United States. Star Trek should not be limited, but open to all. HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) You’re from Great Britain and I am from United States. Star Trek should not be limited, but open to all. The nationality of Trek fans does not concern me. It's the manner of how the people in that band use Star Trek. THAT is what concerns me. The franchise is already weak at this point. It doesn't need to be associated with that kind of nonsense. Edited February 20, 2005 by The King
Odie 0 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) I don't see Star Trek going down hill because of the music group. On the other hand there is this producer that does cause some concern, but that would be an off-topic. Like I said before is just a one music group and Star Trek won't fall because of it. IMO I really don't like the music, but I am not going complain about it. Edited February 20, 2005 by Odie
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 20, 2005 I don't see Star Trek going down hill, because of the music group.
