MichaelJCO 0 Posted May 25, 2003 In retrospect Kirk and company(which the notable exception of Stiles) took it extraordinarily well when it was revealed that Romulans were descended from Vulcans in TOS episode Balance of Terror. However some of the less than honest behavior of some Vulcans on Enterprise has me thinking-again- wouldnt this revelation have been the biggest whopper of them all? Given the backstory of where the Romulans came from(mass exodus from Vulcan to escape the Surak reformation circa- 300 AD) and the fact that T'Pol was aware of their existence are we suppose to believe that the Vulcans had no idea who the Romulans were? I'm a big fan of canon and continutiy but I have always thought that the idea that humans and Romulans would never have seen each other- not even once-for the whole war was hard to believe. But the idea that the Vulcans had no idea who the Romulans were is even more unlikely. But What If Suppose this revelation was enough to damage the relationship between Vulcan and Earth in 2266? Or suppose the revelation was made during the Earth -Romulan war or shortly after-would Earth have trusted Vulcan enough to found the Federation?Any and all ideas appreciated. ddillard 2 Posted May 26, 2003 I find it very possible that the Earth/Romulan war was fought without either side seeing each other. If the romulans only used audio transmissions. From the other episodes we hear that most of the was was fought on a long range basis.
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted May 26, 2003 Funny story, Last night (Sun.) at the end of the encore of The Expanse they were showing previews for Minefield. In the preview, at the end, as part of the regular soundtrack a crew member is heard to say "who are they?" but then a dubbed in/over voice could be heard to say "Romulans!" Just ridiculous, I’m wondering more all the time if them in charge care at all.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard 1 Posted May 26, 2003 I'd like to think that Humans had contact with Romulans, but becuase of the dellicate Human/Vulcan relations and Section 31, I think there would be a mass cover up, so Kirk's generation wouldn't know what Romulans look like. Make any sense?
