Favorite version of Christmas Carol

Recommended Posts

The radio station I listed to has been playing Christmas music non stop since Thanksgiving. It's an oldies (60's, 70's, 80's) station so it's older Christmas music. I started thinking some songs just are just associated with a certain performer. So who's your favorite version of certain songs?

Examples that I probably think are most played and/or known by a specific artist:

White Christmas - Bing Crosby

The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole

Frosty - Jimmy Durante

The Hallelujah Chorus - The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

I'll Be Home for Christmas - Elvis Presley

Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley

Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives

Please feel free to list alternatives or other artists and songs I have missed.

This is hard because most of my Christmas music is instrumental - I'm particulary fond of Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas selections plus other instrumentals like George Winston, James Galway and Kenny G. So I don't really have "the definitive version of a lot of songs"

My favorites would be different - the song is so popular there may be no definitive version etc.:

Carol of the Bells - George Winston

Coventry Carol - John Denver

Traditional carols like Silent Night - the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

So who do you associated with which songs?

And my all-time favorite Christmas song is an original composition sung only by its writer: (drumroll please)
