Now, I understand alot of you are involved with sims...Like mine, many times your ship ends up in combat. So, what are the best tactics for dealing with certain enemies? What tactics work best with what class of ships? Well, Take a seat, and open your books to page one, Class. I'm your instructor, Lieutenant JG Jim Phaserman, and I know tactics, I've developed several of my own in my Star Trek simming days, so ask your questions on any subject involving Starship combat.

Topics to be covered in class:

The practicality of the Torpedo volley

When to use Phasers

Menuevering to Victory

Knowing when to Fold 'em

the art of Deflector Shield manipulation

Multivector Chaos

Picard Menuever

Riker Menuever

Going Evasive

And much more.

For my first lesson, a bit of useful information on what classes best suit what role.

Oberth Class-Don't take it into combat. If nothing else, it could be used to escort convoys.

Defiant Class-Where to start? Picket Ship, escort, Fits well into the role of a Corvette or a frigate in fleet ingagments. Also, long range armed recon. May also be well suited to Special Operations missions.

Miranda Class-Probably a good bet if you need a destroyer or heavy frigate. it's array of Phasers and torpedo tubes make it a hard hitter for it's size, though it's defenses are a little weak, so don't plan on taking this thing one-on-one with a larger starship.

Saber Class- A good frigate, but lacks in Firepower. Not a great choice for one on one combat.

Norway Class-Same size as the Saber, but has more weapons. definately a good call for a destroyer-type warship.

Intrepid Class- this ship packs a good mix of speed and firepower. use it to your advantage as a Light Cruiser. this baby will light em up with the best of them.

Nebula Class-Dispite it's size, I'd say it'd make a fair light Cruiser. the all around armament is good, but it can be a bit ackward to fight with.

Akira Class-Definately a medium cruiser candidate. this ship is bred for action. she's got firepower to spare, and is a good call for most missions.

Prometheus Class-Did somebody call for a wood shed? This ship will put the lumber to someone, and lay a lot of people in pine boxes. Multi Vector Assault Mode makes this ship a real killer.

Excelsior Class-Again, a good medium cruiser. the design is old, but it's got teeth, big and sharp. You wanna do it, Excelsior is up to the task.

Ambassador Class-the smallest of what I would call "Heavy Cruisers", this ship is big and packs a wallop. it's name may be diplomatic, but put her in a hot zone and she is anything but.

Galaxy Class-a tried and true heavy Cruiser. she packs the weapons in all the right places, and has good speed to boot. She's also a good ship to form a strike group around.

Soveriegn Class-a Definate heavy cruiser. it's got speed, armament and durability. She's designed to explore, but she's born to fight. Take the reigns and say goodby to your opponents

Shiloh Class-This is the Soveriegn's big sister, and she's got an attitude on her---a bad one. She's born and bred for the big fight. if it needs to be blown up, knocked down, or just plain whooped on, Shiloh can do it for you. A good call for a Battlecruiser

Titan Class-It's big. It's bad. It's not really all that pretty, either. She's got the size of a Battleship, but not the guns. Not a bad choice, though.
