enigmatic_mystery 0 Posted September 7, 2004 I thought of this while reading To Kill a Mokingbird for my forced school reading list. They where talking about a certain religon that said everything that was fun was a sin and that thing and its owner would go straight to heck. This got my demented and sadistic mind going. What if a member of that religon thought that reading the bible was fun? Well that memeber would go straight to heck and so would the bible. That would be a blasphmey (SP?!) and that got me thinking about if a bible could even be cast into the depths of heck. I decided to post it up here to find out about what you guys think. I thought it about for an hour and came up with a migrain....so why don't you guys give it a go?
RikerChick 5 Posted September 7, 2004 I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird so I'm assuming this religion is just made up, not a real one. I've never heard any religion say that all things fun are a sin. I've read the post 5 times and I'm getting a headache myself. I enjoy Bible reading so if I were a member of that religion I'd have to consider myself as good as toast.

BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 7, 2004 Wow, that's a good one. I've been thinking about it for a few minutes, and my mind is a muddled mess! If fun is a sin, then reading the Bible should be work and not enjoyable. But then, some work can be fun. But then, if reading the Bible can be fun, and if fun is a sin, would reading the Bible be a sin for those who enjoy it? AAARRRGGGHHH!!! *sound of head exploding* This is way too much for my feeble mind!
jaina27 0 Posted September 7, 2004 I have read "To Kill A Mockingbird" Great book, RC, you should read it sometime. It has been a while, however, and I do not recall the part you are talking about, enigmatic. It does sound like a strange religion.....what part of the book was that in??? ~Jaina
enigmatic_mystery 0 Posted September 7, 2004 It was in the part where Scout was talking to Miss Maudie and Miss Maudie said somthing about foot-washers. I think that was brought about when Scout asked about Aurtur Radely....I'm not to sure about HOW foot-washers were brought into the conversation....just that they where. Meh. I am still trying to untangle my brain.

The Bible needs to be accepted IN IT'S ENTIRETY as the Word and Will of God for Humanity. [/rant]
WEAREBORG4102 0 Posted September 17, 2004 Let me explain. Pulls out copy of To Kill A Mockingbird. You're talking about Boo Radley's father right. Miss Maudie describes him as a "foot-washing Baptist." "Foot-washers believe anything that's pleasure is a sin." We'll ever know but, that is not at all the belief of Christianity.
