HRH The KING 0 Posted May 5, 2004 (edited) The General Belgrano was an enemy ship. The crew of HMS Conquerer was completely justified in sending it down. The Argentinians didn't hesitate to use EXOCETS against our Royal Navy vessels. When that silly woman called Mrs. Thatcher on TV and asked why Conquerer sunk that ship, Mrs. Thatcher should have said that "In the war, we will sink Belgrano and every other ship that they have, if we need to". They started that war against the UK, and they lost. They paid the price for aggression against the United Kingdom. Our Armed Forces were simply defending our people and land. It's as simple as that. Jim Phaserman 0 Posted May 5, 2004 I didn't read the article, when I enlisted in the Navy, I was an FT, which means I was trained to shoot torpedoes at subs and surface ships. I got to read over the Belgrano sinking. the fact that the Belgrano was fired upon and hit with three obscelete torpedoes is a testimate to the marksmanship of the crew of HMS Conqueror. the odd part is, My mother was like 2 months pregnant with me when the Belgranowas sunk. actually, she wasn't even that far along yet.this incident is also the first and only time a Nuclear powered submarine has attacked and sunk a vessel in combat.
