Jesus Christ Superstar is not really an Opera, most people would consider it a musical or at a stretch call it a "rock opera". The reason for this is because the narrative threads are sustained through the words, whether in the dialogue or in the separate musical numbers, while in Opera the drama is largely generated by the music itself.
