    Bridging the Star Trek Gap

New producer aims to make Enterprise fit better.

July 22, 2004 - Things have been shaken up a bit at Paramount, and the team that brings you the fourth season of Enterprise will not be exactly the same as that of the previous three seasons.

The big change is the replacement of Brannon Braga, who up until now has been producing the show with Rick Berman. Braga is shedding the title of "show runner" to take a more executive role with Enterprise, and series writer Manny Coto (who's also written for Odyssey 5) will step up to take day-to-day control.

What may be good about the change is that unlike Berman and Braga, Coto is a big fan of the original series and would like to bring Enterprise more into line with Gene Roddenberry's earlier Star Trek stories. Coto told Sci Fi Wire that he would like to link Enterprise up with the original Trek and its subsequent series.

Coto told the website, "I'm a fan of the ... original Trek, and season four for me is going to be everything I, as an old Star Trek fan, would want to see on Enterprise, which is basically a lot of touchstones connecting Enterprise with the old series and with the Next Generation series."

Coto has his work cut out for him, considering all the breaks with continuity Enterprise has made under Braga's helm. One of the first things the new producer plans to address is the difference between the annoyable, conniving Vulcans of Enterprise and more honest and emotionless point-eared folks we saw in the original series and the films.

Coto plans to incorporate a storyline about a Vulcan "Lawrence of Arabia" who leads a revolution on Vulcan to restore the ideals of Sarek. Sarek, of course, was the legendary Vulcan master who advocated peace, logic, and emotional control to end centuries of war. This will naturally lead to changes in the Enterprise's relations with the Vulcans and serve to develop the Andorian storyline further.

Original series fans will also be happy to know that Coto intends to reintroduce more original alien races, such as the green-skinned Orions. Everyone who'd like to see the Gorns again, raise your hands!

The fourth season of Enterprise will also bring a swift end to the Temporal Cold War; a guest appearance of Brent Spiner ("Data") as Noonian Soong's ancestor; and a potential marriage engagement for T'Pol.

For the latest news on the Star Trek film franchise, check out our other article about a potential pre-Enterprise motion picture.

I found one prt extremly fulfilling for myself and my Older brother, the reintroduciton of the G*** and Possibly more of the Tholians.

  6. Sorry to burst your question but its entirely possible that Archer's grandfather fought in the Eugenic wars the following is 2 of my thoughts:

    1. in First Contact Data tells Picard that the time they arrived in, was just after World War III ended that was the 2050-60 era i believe

    2. In the Star Trek book called the "Eugenic Wars" its stated that the war took place in 1992-1996

It is possible for Archers Grandfather to have taken presedents in the Eugenic Wars as with the Age coniciding with his era. Well thats my thoughts anyways toodle oo.

  7. 1992-1996 was the Eugenic Wars era, but in Carpenter Street (2004) it seemed as if the wars did nothing to the normal era of 2004, if im not mistaken in the Star Trek Book "The Eugenic War" its stated that the SuperSoldiers took over most of Asia and Africa, so i could be wrong about the effects it might of had on the Carpenter street setting.

  8. You have a most pesimistic view, but I suppose it goes with the thread.

Thnx Captain i appreciate being known as a having a pesimistic view, i just find it exhiirating to wonder how a Mighty Empire fell, like the romans, egyptians and so forth.

  9. This may not seem like new news to u but hey might aswell put it here for other people who don't:

The suilbon return and with them comes more threats of the dangerous Silik as they have altered the timeline while the enterprise was away in the Delphic Expanse

  10. An idea of how i think the federation should fall goes like this:

After the Temporal Cold War ends with all the different faction's siging a treaty stating no more time messing about between all races of the known quadrants in the galaxy.

The Borg decide to continue their assimiltaion's as normal as the Temporal Cold War won't hinder their progression to assimilate other species but as with normal, the ending of the Temporal Cold war persuades them to start conquering the galaxy quickly so if their is another Cold War they already have the foot hold on all the major races.

Studying the History of the Federation and it's predicted course throught the next 200 years they decide to launch a full scale attack on the Federation Armada weakeing one of the galaxies major hopes of helping the other races from being assimilated. The Federation ends when the President orders the immediate opening of quantum singularities into 8472's fluidic space to ask 8472 for help. After the borg threat is neutralised 8472 starts attacking all races in the galaxy wiping them out one by one.

A combination of all forces in the quadrants to do a last stand against the 8472 threat in a bid to stop all the quantum singularities in the known space, The Federation is defeated and the galaxy starts to change into a Fluidic type of space.

    HAPPY READING

  11. I read at Trektoday.com that in a recent interview with some of the writers of enterprise that they want to wrap up the Temporal Cold war arc that has engulfed 3 season including the Xindi arc in season 4. I believe they should'nt wrap up the temporal cold war as it has been with the series since the beginning and ahs given it the momentum to make interesting stories. What I think they should do is wrap it up in the last season, therefore building up a "want to know" thing as well as having sizeable action to end the series proudly, look at how season 3 turned out, quiet well.

  12. STAR WARS The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime, as being a kinda avid SW fan I read this book and found a heartbreaking stroyline mixed with a new unforseen journey.

STAR TREK: The Genesis Wave, the way they interwined the Wrath of Khan's affect on the alpha quadrant in the time of the Enterprise E was a testament that old things can never be broken, the story was seamless and the flow was riveting.

  13. Another fav scene of mine is from DS9 season 7 episode 7.8-9 i think and it concerns Damar and Weyoun. Damar is mounting the resistance and is being quiet and Weyoun insults him about his consumption of liquor and attitude. A priceless scene to me hahaha.

"There's something different about you Damar, it seems if your only half tranced... your not holding a bottle in your hand hehehe"- Weyoun,

"Havent u got someone to torcher Weyoun-"- Damar

"You've regained your confidence how assuring..." - Weyoun

"I was'nt aware of me being cold" - Damar

  14. "It was the year of fire, the year of destruction, the year we took back what was ours, the year of rebirth, the year of great sadness, it was the year of pain, the year of joy, it was a voyage, it was the year everything changed, the year is 2261 name of the place BABYLON 5" - theme continues with shadow/vorlon war clips and character names.

  15. I just had to tell everybody, anime lover or not that Another Robotech series is coming out "ROBOTECH: Shadow Force", god I luv that show. Plz send your thoughts about this right here, I would luv to hear if any trekkers were Tech fans.

  16. I voted for action and adventure,i also like a bit of romance now and again, but a good action episode is what i look forward to

To true what hangon said earlier, action is pivitol and makes the show alluring to watch as the exctiement crreps up as well as the graphics and stunts. As the joker said "You can make an omellete without breaking a few eggs" (To have a good episode something needs to blow up") a fine example of what i htink an episode should be like.

  17. Babylon 5's storys have been awesome at relaying graphic scenes and all yet failing in some area's like character development and quick use of story arcs like the ancient enemies which he could of built up more (The Vorlons and the Shadows season 4 mostly). He said he could offer something unique to the Star Trek universe. My bet is that he creates a ST series based on either Starfleet Exploring another galaxy or the federation's explorations into alternate dimension, i dunno they all sound good to me.
