  1. Jolene is absolutely right. Of course we all know that Trip is far more than a catfish eating honky - but that is probably the way a truly played T'Pol would view him - there is nothing in common. I am sure she recognised they were taking her character down a road it didn't belong and a great deal of remedial work is going to be needed to get her back any believability as a Vulcan. I hope the issues are addressed.

My admiration for Jolene has risen because of her comments not only because they show she does understand the character but because she actually has come out and said it. The whole Trip ' T'Pol thing was less than pathetic and introduced for reasons I am sure we all are painfully aware of - it is a shame that the show had to suffer for it.

  2. I agree with everything that Jolene said and admire her very much for saying it - at least she seems to have a grasp of who her character is meant to be - it was never a credible romantic relationship - but has endless possiblities in other directions.

I think the Trip / Archer relationship if anything has suffered in season three with Archer ignoring his friend and indeed anybody that had an opinion other than his. If they get back to the established friendship that the pair are supposed to enjoy in season four I will be very happy - they have a good dynamic.

I would love to see Trip's darker side explored - his sister's death will have stirred up a good deal. I probably mean his more emotional nature not darker side as I can't imagine he is anything other than a basically good man. Trip 'feels' deeply, for himself and on behalf of others and the tensions that can raise will always make interesting drama.

  3. Needless to say I'm with you UH - have you seen the stuff on the official site (and elsewhere)? I have to say Jolene has gone up hugely in my estimation for being brave enough to say she was uncomfortable with what she was asked to do last season and how she felt it totally alien to her character and that the relationship with Trip was completely unconvincing - good on her!!!

  4. You poor peeps - how can they justify this? Especially missing out Doctor's Orders - one of the best of season three.

Think of us over here in UKland - first we get Azati Prime and Damage as a double header on the same night and now Sky have started at the beginning with Broken Bow and go every night at 6.00pm - now that's what I call service!!

  5. I see Manny Coto gave an answer of sorts to the timing of the Eugenics War at the UPN bash last - week - if you don't mind spoilers you can read it at Startrek.com. His attitude was a pretty philosophical one - i.e. the 90s were the future for TOS and it's not the writers fault that there were no eugenics war in the end. He gave a few hints about what's in store for Season 4 and I have to say I am really looking forward to it.

  6. I agree with all of the above!

I don't think that TPTB will ever address the issue however - all they needed was an excuse for her to get her clothes off with Trip. And if she ever was made to face the consequences of her actions I think she would only at best be sorry she was caught - I have sensed no sign at all that she is sorry for what she did because it was wrong and endangered other people. I don't get the sense that she has bothered to think about it at all.

I have some sympathy with Archer wanting to retain his command structure for the mission to the Expanse, even if it meant a civilian first officer but now some action ought to be taken against a person who willfully put her own gratification above her duty to the ship.

  7. I went for the thought stimulating sci fi - well that is what the show is primarily about. But I also love it when it is used as a vehicle to further the friendships between the main characters as we get to know them and of course when it steps into the thing that Trek has always done so well - i.e. commenting on society and the world situation in general. So thought provoking sci fi - but the stimulation isn't always sci fi orientated.

I agree 100% with Unicorn Hunter in that if I want cheap sexual relationships and unnecessary exposure of flesh (even if said relationship was at all tenable) I'd watch soaps - and I never do that. I will not even be looking at the video mentioned - it was all I could do to bother to watch the scenes that they are in together in in the first place - it is a waste of precious air time.

  8. Loved it! Loved the end - echoes of TOS for me! Can't wait to see how they develop it. Best of all though - since Azati Prime my hubbie has sat down with me every week to watch and he loved this one too and is looking forward to season 4. I think I have a convert! :(

I suppose of course we have to assume that now the sphere builders have been sent packing from whence they came, that at some time in the future it all starts again, another expanse starts to form in time for the battle of Prosean V to take place and get rid of them altogether? Despite the fact that it would now be clear what was happening and preventive measures could therefore be taken early. Perhaps the timeslip ending and how they solve it may address this though - because hang on that battle looked like it was being fought by normal ships in normal space.

  9. Mmmm interesting! And it's a fine balance we have to draw when judging anything along these lines. Archer's intent was clearly correct - the intent we all have should be faced with the same situation, to save humanity. But I feel that he became servant to that mission rather than pilot of it. His character suffered as a result - I mean from the viewer's perspective he became predicatable and tedious. He did get the job done however, and maybe that really is all that counts. Trinneergirl makes some very valid points about his utter disregard for the rest of the crew and his shouldering of the task to such an extent that there could be no other opinions, no other way to do it. So the intent was right and so was the outcome but I can't help feeling that I like him less now and that I lost respect for him as a leader.

T'Pol however had no intent to get hooked on trellium. We all know of the effects of addiction so perhaps she was incapable of having any intent other than to continue using once she was hooked. But I never felt sorry for her. Whatever her state of mind I think she always knew what she was doing was wrong and in her position had no excuse for keeping it quiet for so long. Phlox's action in keeping her condition secret is also unforgiveable - at some point the code of doctor/patient confidentiality breaks down and, for the sake of the mission and the rest of the crew, this was it. No doubt she will never have to answer for her actions because, as we all know, the writers only pursued this silly storyline in order to get some flesh exposed and now it looks like poor old Trip is stuck with her.

  10. Yes I think of the eps listed that Shuttlepod 1 was the best in terms of Trip's character development and I agree there hasn't been much for him this season except as a foil for whatever it is they are trying to mould T'Pol into. But then again I love the episode's where Connor gets to flex his acting muscle so Similitude was fantastic as was The Forgotten where we finally got a kind of resolution to the Lizzie situation. Whilst it looks as thought we are stuck with the pairing I do hope that next season will see him stretched in new directions as well.

  11. That's what I like to see - 100% for Trip!!! O - I am the only vote! No seriously - I have always liked Trip's character best - he's up there with Data for me. I think Archer has been seriously damaged by this season - becoming one dimensional and boring. It hasn't been much but Reed has really improved this season, he's had some great little character moments. This has been Trip's worst season for character development because of the ridiculous T'Pol thing with the writers concentrating far too much on using him only as an excuse for her to get her kit off. She of course has been rendered less than pathetic. For pity's sake please let's lose it next season and concentrate on this wonderful character in all his other many facetted dimensions.

  12. You know what? I don't think I care one way or the other - we have Enterprise. We have an intelligent, well written piece of drama that is employing actors and writers unlike the cheap reality tv crap that is crammed down our throats most of the week and that frankly insults the slightly above amoeba-like viewer. I was raised on Trek. I love Trek. And compared to what else is on offer Enterprise is still one of the best things out there - long may it prosper!

  13. I'm with you Unicorn Hunter (and the majority it seems) every week T'Pol is more of a travesty to Vulcan culture and if she gets the axe I will be delighted. :naughty:

I saw Linda Park and Tom Hardy in a play in London last week and that girl can act - it is a pity she is so under-utilised.
