  1. I'm of the opinion that if the demo is sucky, it really hurts the game's retail chances. There are much better levels in Elite Force II that should have been the demo level. The only reason I got EFII when I did was because back in September, EB Games had a $19.99 web special, so I took a chance on it.

  2. Ok, let's see

Starfleet Academy + Chekov's Lost Missions

Armada (which is better than Armada II)

    Klingon Academy

    DS9 The Fallen

    Starfleet Command -- Orion Pirates

Elite Force (I also have the expansion pack but will count that in with the original game)

    Elite Force II

So that is 9 purchases for 7 games (counting expansion packs)

    contrast with Star Wars games

    X-Wing

    TIE Fighter

    X-Wing vs TIE Fighter

    X-Wing Alliance

    Rogue Squadron 3D

    Dark Forces

    Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

    Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

So that is a total of 9 independent games, which if I get SW: KOTOR for Christmas, will make an even 10

  3. Believe it or not, I HATED the demo as well (and still didn't even like the level when I played it in the game) but I took a chance on the game and the rest of it is MUCH better than the demo that was released.

  4. I'd watch Spock's Brain about ten times before I'd sit through TNG "Masks" again. Hell, I'd willingly watch "Encounter at Farpoint" (which I now find grating as all hell) as well.

Sorry, I thought that "Masks" was easily the worst episode of the last season, and in the running for worst of TNG.

  5. Well, in theory, the Constitution-class can seperate, using the saucer as an emergency escape vehicle versus escape pods.  However, the stardrive section can be reconnected to the saucer in spacedock.

As for Voyager, I agree, it's a small, solid ship.  As for the Enterprise-E, why couldn't it seperate, eh?  John Eaves had designed the ship to be capable of saucer seperation in case a future movie had called for such an act.  You can clearly see a v-shape seperation line where the engineering hull meets the saucer, making the quantum torpedoe launcher and captain's yacht the front of the battle section.

I tried to find a pic online, but had no luck.  The designer, John Eaves, designed the ship to be "capable" of saucer seperation, but we may never find out.  I allways assumed that if the Enterprise-E could saucer seperate, it would be more of a tactical strength since the battle section has no impulse engine, or possibly in the way of the Constitution-class, jettisonning the stardrive section and flying off to safety.

if memory serves, on the constiution class ships, the impulse exhaust was on the secondary hull...such that in the even of emergency separations, they would be left without propulsion and primary and secondary power...

Actually on Constitution class ships the impulse exhaust is at the aft portion of the primary hull, that way they still had some propulsion in case of separation. Of course, I don't have a handy pic to post as proof, but just look at that part of the ship next time you get a chance...it's kind of like the two impulse exhausts on the Galaxy class saucer section, but together in the middle of the aft section.

  6. I'm not sure a specific episode is needed to convert someone to Trek. I think the key is EXPOSURE to it. I dated a girl once who was a Trek hater. About a month later I caught her watching it...hooked!

    Anyway, here are my 5

TOS -- The Trouble With Tribbles

TNG -- The Best of Both Worlds (obviously both parts) or Darmok

DS9 -- Either Trials and Tribbleations (to tie in with TOS) or Our Man, Bashir

VOY -- not sure, but The Doctor would be a big part of it.

    ENT -- Broken Bow

  7. I don't remember the shapes, but I remember that she was surrounded by red lines, turned around, the robe just "appeared" on her (must be that on demand clothing replicator/transporter bit ) and she stepped out of the shower.

  8. One of my first Trek related memories is a book I was given when I was about 5 or 6. It was a 4 scene pop-up book called "Giant in the Universe". In the book, Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Uhura beam down to a planet, get stuck in glass jars by the "evil giant scientist" (complete with laughter) melt their way out of the jars using their phasers and then beam back up. Basically, 1/4 the story of an animated episode of Trek. :bag:

I also saw STTMP in the theater, when it came out! I was all of 7.

Other than that, watched the occasional episode, but didn't really get into it until I was about 12.

  9. If they set the next series before TOS, they can lose the gigantic communicators! One of the silliest things about "The Cage" was watching Majel (as Number One) screaming "More Power!" or something to that effect into a HUGE communicator!

Hey, I'm a LT jg now! Whoo hoo!;)

  10. If I remember right, the STTMP transporter effect was a visible beam or column of light, with the transported person showing as a particle effect outline and then fading into coherence as the visible beam winked off. I remember it looked cool, but just thought that perhaps as things were upgraded into STII that the transporter would have been updated, thus new effect.

    Ok, maybe ;)

  11. TFF (The best pure "Kirk" line of all the films. You should know which one I mean)

Dammit Bones you're a doctor. You know pain and guilt can't be taken away with the wave of a magic wand, they're the things we carry with us, the things which make us who we are. I don't want my pain taken away! I NEEED my pain!

Actually I was referring to "What does God need with a starship?" but your quote may be more correct.

  12. The Shater car ad was for an Oldsmobile, but I don't remember which model. I also don't remember which daughter was driving.

I've heard Patrick Stewart do voiceovers on commercials, but the details currently escape me...probably will remember in the middle of the night sometime.

  13. I'll see what I can do to put this thread back on topic:

I saw Nemesis and absolutely HATED it. Washed up TWOK retread. SuperVillain, SuperWeapon, crew member dies, ship gets the crap beat out of it.

My wife has commented that Trek movies are better when they don't invent a villain specifically for the movie.

Shortly afterwards, I decided to perform a test. I rented ST 5 to see which film was the worst of the two.

After viewing ST 5 again, it actually moved up TWO places on my mental list of best Trek movies. And even though the movie has obvious flaws, much of it works and is true to TOS. I think that if Paramount hadn't halved the budget they gave Shatner to work with and had gone with ILM for the special effects work, ST 5 would have been an absolute hit movie, rather than "one for the diehards" as it seems to be now.

Mofo's List of Trek Movies, in order of preference:

    TWOK (It's Khan, 'nuff said)

TUC (A great send-off, plus Kirk vs Kirk is great!)

FC (The absolute best of Next Gen movies)

TVH (Part hokey, rest is great, cheers in the theater when 1701-A was shown)

TSFS ("You said you'd kill me!" "I lied.")

STTMP (Much improved with the director's cut, and the best soundtrack)

TFF (The best pure "Kirk" line of all the films. You should know which one I mean)

Generations (Basic premise just did not work for me, too many plot holes)

Insurrection (Good puns, felt like a drawn out episode, Anij is a hottie)

Nemesis (Made my point above *shudder*)

Comments? Suggestions? Phasers set to "kill"
