  1. you may have misunderstood me....i believe there are gravitational forces all over the galaxy from every star - dont they come from the galatic core which then causes the galaxy spinning?

You're right Trekzone! Even the gravitational force of my body is present in other galaxies, but as you move away from a body, even one like the sun, the gravity exerted on the object decreases exponentially. This is exactly why the forces exerted from all those other planets don't affect a starship, because the number has become so close to zero it is negligible. Add to that the fact that an almost equal force is being applied from planets in the opposite direction, these gravitational pulls would amount to nothing.

As for why impulse engines need to stay on: in star Trek, impulse engines are not based on warp power, but this is a fault in itself because impulse engines can make a starship travel at near light speed whereas warp puts ships well beyond light speed. Now, moving a small partical at near light speeds without warping space is simple, but to move a massive body like the Enterprise would requite OBSCENE amounts of force and subsequently, energy. According to the logic, the only practical impulse reactor, for all intents and purposes, would be one that warps space. So, if we did invent impulse engines, they would need to be warp based and thus they would need to always be on to maintain the constant warping of space. This doesn't quite answer the question because in Star Trek impulse DOES NOT base impulse apon warp power, I'm just pointing out that it should.

Also interesting is the fact that a tractor beam could not work without warping space as well. So when the warp core goes offline, a ship would not have warp, impulse, or even tractor beams...

yay!!! i was right in Physics for a change!!!!!!!!!!!

and just before my birthday no less!!!!

  2. What i think - remember Exile? what if this is true, except the "small moons" are actual planets? where the impulse engines must work overtime to move from distortion to distorion - but the internia dampeners have been tuned to cut them out?

  3. MP:POS #401 - The Next Generation

    Production Began: 28.11.03

    Production Finish: 04.12.03

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On stardate 56844.9 the U.S.S. Enterprise-E was attacked by Shinzon, a Reman who seized control of the Romulan senate, and was crippled. On this tragic day a crewmember, a friend was lost; Commander Data served with distinction for over 12 years and will be sorely missed. The torch has now passed to the next generation of explorers.

Since that day, over 40 prototype craft have been launched, tested and destroyed. Until one man decided to change all that, Commander Miller and his wife, Michelle, proposed a new design system that sports 20th century spoilers and state-of-the-art weaponry. Leading the Starfleet Security Experimental Craft Research team is Starfleet Command attache. Admiral Janeway, with her knowledge, and over 260 engineers, design, power and agronomical flaws have popped up everywhere. Now Commander Miller’s Akira-class variant has combined failure with success in 3 different trail runs, each improving on the last.

    Commander’s Log, Stardate 57500.0

Today has been one of the best in my career, Admiral Janeway has just approved the Poseidon’s third specs, and we will be testing them out shortly.

Commander Matthew Miller, a blonde 42-year-old human-Vulcan male standing at 187cm, sits at his desk, in his guest quarters in San Francisco’s Starfleet Command complex recording his log, when his communicator interrupted his happy moment,

"Commander Merryweather to Commander Miller" - the commander shakes his head, to clear his thoughts, what could this be about? he ponders to himself, as he reaches for the terminal to pause the log.

"Go ahead" Miller calls into thin air after he presses the pause button.

"Sir, I have just received a communication from Utopia Planitia."

    "And?"

"Sir, it was the infirmary." A deep feeling of regret shivered down the Commander's body as he considered the options, Mich? ... no it cant be, she was scheduled to leave

"Sir, I’m sorry to report, but it’s Michelle...she’s dead"

"No..." Matthew sits there in his chair, staring at the Starfleet insignia; a tear swells in his left eye. Just then, the door chimes.

"Thank you, John. Miller.... out." he presses his comm. badge, and then turns to the door, wiping the tears from his eyes, "It’s open" he calls.

His daughter, walks in, sees her father and without any words, walks over and cries in his arms,

    "What happened?"

"I don’t know, I’m going to head over there now"

An interplanetary shuttlecraft sets down on the rough, red Mars surface and Commander Miller runs out, and is greeted by Admiral Janeway,

“Its good to see you, Commander”

“Admiral!” the commander snapped to attention,

“At ease, Mr. Miller.” The tension in the commanders posture eased, “I didn’t know Vulcans had emotions”

    “I'm only half-Vulcan, sir”

    “Ah...ok, right this way”

The commander is lead into the main medical complex, where he sees a corpse covered with a Starfleet sheet. Commander Miller hesitantly approaches the observation window, places his hands on the window, bows his head and begins to cry once more. Admiral Janeway stepped back for a moment, while the Commander relished his human side. Miller composes himself, and turns to the Admiral,

    “How...?”

“We don’t know, she was in a EV suite exploring the spoilers on the nacelle, when sensors picked up a strange sub-space emission roughly 10km from her, the next thing we knew she was screaming.”

    “The autopsy?”

“Inconclusive, there was massive trauma to the head, like she was shaken, but we don’t know” There’s nothing more I can do, the commander thinks, applying his fathers logic,

    “What about the ship?”

“It is complete, the command centre has been included in this version and the warp engine has been upgraded to an experimental XIII” The commander looks at the Admiral, then at his wife, limp on the biobed,

“Let me find the bastards, Admiral”

“I’m sorry?” At that moment, Admirals Nacheyz, Paris and Jellico walk in,

“Status report?” Admiral Nacheyz barks at Admiral Janeway,

“We still haven’t identified the source” realising that they missed somebody, Janeway introduces Miller “This is Commander Miller, the former husband of Michelle Miller”

“Ah” Admiral Paris walks over and shakes Miller’s hand “My condolences Commander”

“Thank you admiral...Admiral, please!?” The other admirals look inquisitive at Janeway, she fills the gaps,

“Commander Miller wants to find the people that did this”

“Commander, we don’t even know who did it.”

“Admiral, please. I need to do this”

“You’re a Starfleet Officer and you will respect the chain of command! We will decide if your prototype can fly!” Admiral Nacheyz barks at the Commander, all the other admirals stare at this outburst,

“ADMIRAL! I designed that “prototype” up there, and I say she can fly, and she will”

    “I beg your pardon?”

“You heard me Admiral” and with this, Commander Miller storms out fuming. The commander heads to his guest quarters.

Commander Miller, now relaxed from his encounter, gets into bed and closes his eyes, just as he does, a dog bark wakes him up again,

“Computer, lights” no response, he fumbles in the dark, and while doing so recognises the bed head and bed-side table. He is in his home on Earth, but I haven’t been here for over 5 years, he finally finds the light, and switches it on. When he looks over to his left, he is shocked to see his dead wife, still asleep obviously not affected by the fumbling and light.

“Hello?” The commander calls out, he is shocked to receive a response,

    “You are not dreaming, Commander.”

“Who’s there?” the Commander bolts upright and looks around.

“Forgive me. My name is Captain John Readings, from the time ship Relativity”

“Time ship? Starfleet doesn’t have any”

“Not for another 300 years. Commander you must listen to what I’m about to tell you”

    “I’m obviously not going anywhere”

“Your historic mission has been erased.”

    ”Erased? How do you mean?”

“Commander, please let me finish. On stardate 57500.0 you were meant to launch to investigate an invasion of the Federation. However, that has been erased, on stardate 57500.0, you morn the loss of your wife.”

Back in the present...next day, Commander Miller runs into Admiral Janeway’s office waving a PADD.

    “Commander?”

“Admiral! I have something you and the other admirals might want to see”

In a briefing room in the command complex, Commander Miller draws diagrams on a large LCARS system, with the other admirals looking on. The Commander draws up information on Quantum theory, subspace incursions and time travel.

“Admirals. Last night I was visited by Captain John Readings, a temporal agent from 33rd century Starfleet.” Immediately Admiral Nacheyz’s eyes roll, seeing this the commander puckers up more strength.

“He claims that the timeline has been altered. Apparently, the U.S.S. Redux was meant to launch to protect the Federation from an unknown alien threat on stardate 57500.0, however those events have been altered and now the Redux’s mission has been erased, he said that it now never launched, with major consequences rippling through the future.”

“Forgive me, Commander,” Admiral Paris leans forward, and cups his on the table “but this highly circumstancial”

“Sir, please. I now officially request the Redux’s launch”

“I’m sorry, Commander. We cannot risk the possibility of structual collapse” Admiral Nacheyz looks pleased with herself, until Admiral Janeway chimes in,

“I think we need to give the Commander his chance. If he fails, he can be court martialed for endangering his crew, if he succedes... then we’ll praise him” Nacheyz looked gob smacked, but before anyone could say anything, the commander chimed back in,

“Thank you, Admiral... I accept your challenge”

On the Poseidon’s bridge, modelled on the Intrepid-classes, Lieutenant Troy Harriman at the helm and Ensign Don Garlen at ops work their stations and co-ordinate with other ensigns and lieutenants, while technicians install deck plates, activate panels and do general maintenance.

In engineering, Lieutenant Commander Charles Edwards prepares the warp drive for flight, other technicians read specifications and co-ordinate activities with each other. In the armoury Commander Harry Jellico assists with the unpacking of 20 Personal Torpedo launchers, 50 phaser compression rifles, 10 compound grenade launchers, and 400 type II hand phasers. In the newly designed situation room over 50 monitors display information about the Federation, current sensor drone activity, and various other ship statistics. In the middle of the room Commander Miller and Commander John Merryweather discuss the situation, calling information up on the main monitor, that extends across the entire back wall.

“Bridge to Commander Miller” the captain lowers a PADD to the desk and looks around,

    “Miller here, go ahead Ensign”

“Sir, Admiral Janeway is waiting in your ready room”

“I’ll take it in my ready room” The commander stands and walk to the left, to his ready room.

In his ready room, the commander stands at attention

    “Admiral?”

    “Commander.”

Captain Miller steps out of his ready room,

“Those pips look good on you sir,” Commander Edwards, sitting at the engineering station stands and shakes his hand,

“It’s about time you got promoted, sir” Commander Merryweather also shakes his hand,

“All right, listen up people.” He looks around, seeing that he has everyone’s attention he continues,

“Admiral Janeway has informed me, that the Redux’s name has now been officially changed to the U.S.S. Poseidon NX-92620, the experimental committee has been disassembled for the remainder of our temporary mission and we must now get underway”

“Sir, Utopia Planitia has just cleared us for departure.” Ensign Garlen, still at her station, informs the captain,

    “Thanks Claire. Bridge to Engineering”

    “Go ahead sir”

    “Edwards, hows it coming?”

“I have just certified the ship for low warp flight”

    “What do you recommend?”

    “Warp 4, sir”

    “Warp 4?!”

“Yes, sir...sorry sir” Miller looks around...

“Thank you, bridge out.” Miller takes a look around his first command,

“OK, seal all airlocks, clear all moorings, detach umbilicals and initiate the fusion reactors”

    Moments later, Ensign Garlen reports,

“Airlocks sealed...all moorings cleared, umbilicals...detached and the fusion reactors are operating within normal parameters”

“Very good. Helm, take us out, nice and steady.”

“Aye, sir” The lieutenant wheels from the left side of his console to the right,

“Aft thrusters at one quarter, port and starboard at station keeping........we’re underway”

After a tense few moments of uncertainty, the Poseidon clears the shipyard and heads away from Mars at one-half impulse.

    “Bridge to Engineering”

“Engineering,” Commander Edwards hands a couple of PADDS back to an ensign and looks at the ceiling,

    “What’s our status?”

    “You’ve got warp 9 sir”

“That’s why I got you, John”

    “Lets go, sir”

    “I hear you.”

The Poseidon slows, then stretches and disappears in a blue flash, now warping to their future, the crew of the Poseidon socialise in the mess hall. The captain and Merryweather are in the middle of a story about Commander Merryweather’s first mission, when Claire interrupts,

    “Bridge to Captain”

    “Miller here”

“Sir, I’m picking up strange sub-space energy readings 3 light years away...they match the ones that were detected over Mars”

    “I’m on my way.”

As the Poseidon slows to impulse, it approaches a massive sphere, Captain Miler and Commander Merryweather step out of the turbolift, and see the massive sphere on the viewscreen,

“What the hell is it?” The captain asks as he takes his seat,

“I don’t know, sir. Senor scans cannot penetrate it.”

“Launch a...” before the captain could speak, the ship is rocked by phaser fire, the bridge goes dark and the red alert klaxon sounds,

“Sir, I’m picking up 2 un-identified vessels bearing 134 mark 5” Lieutenant Harriman reports,

“Hail them!” the captain looks over to Claire, she shakes her head,

“No response, sir” the captain shakes his head,

“OK, lets try a less subtle approach, Harry, target their weapons array and fire phasers”

    “Aye, sir”

The Poseidon swings around to stare at the alien craft, a scorpion looking beige craft stares back, the Poseidon’s phaser arc lights and two points join, lock and fire, hitting the ship directly in the middle of the “body”.

“Direct hit, sir...their phasers are off-line”

“Try hailing them...” the ship is rocked by more explosions

“Sir! 35 more aliens are now within weapons range.”

“Try and get a message through to Admiral Janeway ensign!”

    “Aye, sir”

The Poseidon is rocked by more explosions, in the corridors, panels explode, and in engineering the massive warp core goes dark,

    “Engineering to Bridge”

“Yes Edwards?” the captain’s hastened reply came through a little distorted,

“Sir, the warp core has just gone off-line”

“T.. r...” the interference increases and the captain is phased out,

“Engineering? ... Engineering!?” on the bridge, the Captain and Commander look at each other,

“John, get down there, see what’s going on”

“Aye, sir” the commander launches out of his chair and into the turbolift,

“Sir! The aliens are drawing closer”

    “Harry!”

“Sir, weapons are off-line...” Commander Jellico, usually a calm and collected blonde haired 30 year old human male was now really concerned, however Ensign Garlen interrupts him

“Everything’s going off-line, shields, impulse engines, warp drive, main power”

“Switch to backup. Did you manage to get a message through?”

“I don’t know sir,” the bridge, now really dark, re-illuminates.

”SIR! The alien craft are now 50 km from our hull, their attaching” the ship rocks “some sort of drill to the hull”

    “Intruder Alert!” the computer screams,

“All security personnel, report to deck 5 section 3” Commander Jellico looks at the captain, and he nods. The commander leaves the bridge, and an ensign takes his place.

On Earth, Admiral Janeway is sitting at her desk, when the computer alerts her to an incoming message, she presses a couple of buttons,

“Admiral Janeway...this is Captain Miller of the Poseidon...We are...attack...unknown...assist...ed”

The admiral stands and runs out,

On the Poseidon, security personal take up defensive positions in sheltered parts of deck 5 as the ceiling is cut open. Armed with phaser compression rifles, Commander Jellico and his team watch as tall dark skinned reptilian aliens jump down, the first few are pot shotted at and killed, while a further 3 holes develop in the ceiling.

On the bridge Captain Miller monitors the situation,

“Engineering to bridge!” Commander Evans concerned voice comes through clear.

    “Bridge here”

“Sir, we have a problem” a slight pause ensues,

“Well, don’t keep it to yourself”

“The warp core has taken a direct hit, it is going critical”

    “Can you stop it?”

“Commander Edwards might be able to, but he’s incapacitated at the moment”

    “Bridge to Sickbay...” no response,

“Bridge to Sickbay...” no response again,

In sickbay, a rather large ceiling hole has unleashed 10 aliens on the un-suspecting medical staff, they lay strewn across the floor, one of the reptiles begins trying to access the ships computer, however due to new security features, he is rejected with the computer telling him,

“All computer functions have been transferred to the bridge”

As more scorpion ships converge on the Poseidon, the U.S.S. Australia arrives and begins firing on the ships attached to the hull.

On the Poseidon bridge, Captain Miller is stunned by the new events,

“Sir, the U.S.S. Hodges is hailing us”

    “On screen”

“Heard you might need some assistance captain?”

    “Your timing is impeccable, Admiral”

    “Sir! The ships are retreating”

“Do you require further assistance, Captain?”

“No, I think we can manage it from here”

    “Very good, Janeway out”

Commander Evans walks into sickbay, sees the hole and sees the dead crew,

    “Evans to the Captain”

    “Go ahead”

“Sir, I think you’d better get down to Sickbay”

    “I’m on my way”

Captain Miller walks into sickbay to see a Long Term Medical Hologram covering bodies with sheets,

    “Commander?”

“Sir, this is the L.M.H. the entire medical staff are dead.” The captain and commander share a sad glance, then the captain heads over to the doctor,

    “Doctor...what’s the causality count?”

“81 casualties, 45 wounded, 25 critical, 11 dead. The most serious patient is Commander Edwards over here, he received a concussion when a bulkhead fell on him”

    “Can you treat him?”

“I wouldn’t be much of a doctor if I couldn’t” the captain looks back at the commander shocked by such rudeness.

    “Bridge to Captain”

    “Go ahead”

“Sir, we have just received a communication from Starfleet Command. The Klingons have somehow learned of the Poseidon and are demanding our immediate disassembly”

“Set a course, I’m on my way”

“Aye, sir” as the captain and commander toward the door, the captain turns,

“Doctor, please inform me when Commander Edwards is on his feet again.” Without waiting for a reply, the two officers leave the sickbay.

Rumours have surfaced today about Poseidons 3rd episode to be produced. The Rumour Mill has received confirmation that an episode will involve Christian Whitty's Amnesia fan fiction 5 part series.

    002.jpg

    The Trekker has commented:

"This should make for an interesting episode, I have read Whitty's fan fiction and think merging the two will make a very fast paced and action packed episode.

Nirk the Critic has not been available for comment.

    003.jpg

The Australian-born executive producer, Miller has reportedly struck a deal with the Canadian at the famous startrekfans.net message boards. The deal will see Chris' first fan fiction be inserted into an episode tentativly titled by the same name.

    004.jpg

In a statement exclusive to The Rumour Mill Miller was quoted saying,

"The adventures of Whitty's main character will be connected to the Poseidons continuing mission"

According to Miller the episode will not air until after the short december sweeps, which will involve 4 episodes from December 7 - December 24. Miller also hinted that the 5th part of Whitty's adventures will not be included,

"For the simple fact that he hasnt done it, and i have a few neat ideas on how to tie it to the mission."

This mission that keeps being referred to will be exposed in the second episode, "The Beginning", tentativly set to be released December 14 2003.

"Amnesia" is tentativly set to be released January 23 2004, and will be the conclusion to "some of the questions from the first 3 episodes, as well as surfacing new questions."
