  1. All I can think of is his line from Futurama's 'Where No Fan Has Gone Before':

"And when I directed Star Trek five, I got a great performance out of me because I respect me so much."

The previous line being Nimoy's "When I directed Star Trek four, I got a great performance out of Bill because I respected him so much."

  2. Isn't it a bit early for a reboot?

It is, but Columbia decided to go that way after they and Raimi couldn't agree on what to do in Spider-Man 4. Hard to say how this will work out. Re-doing the original story will be tough because Spider-Man probably did it as well as anyone can.

  3. Uhhhh..."Deep Roy"?....is that his porn star name?......lol

Nope. Just a lot snappier than Gurdeep Roy.

On topic, I would like to Keenser return. I don't know why people are calling him Star Trek's Jar Jar Binks. He's only in a handful of scenes and he's only got one line. Not even comparable.

Cool fact, Deep Roy is the only actor in history to appear in Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who.

  4. Sounds more like a spinoff than a reboot. The article doesn't mention it but ABC is facing a difficult situation. They've lost their best drama (LOST) and the others are bleeding viewers (i.e. Grey's Anatomy, etc) and they only renewed one new drama (V) and that was a marginal success at best. There's a very realistic possibility that they could be in 4th in short order. So them wanting something with some brand recognition and some producer clout isn't a bad move. Of course they should also keep in mind that Alias more or less petered out and went off very quietly. Perhaps not the best choice, but maybe they just want Abrams back in their fold to an extent.

They just need better phrasing. Reboot seems misused here.

  5. Well, they're putting Survivor up against American Idol so it's an iffy proposition.

Well, it won't go toe-to-toe with Idol until mid-season (and will probably have a not too difficult go of it before that point) and it's possible Idol is about to lose some of its' lustre with Cowell leaving. It may not seem like a lot but I honestly think it could be detrimental to the show. Seems like at least initially people tune in to see him to be a dick to the untalented contestants it's only after that initial phase that they get attached to a particular contestant. Not that I really care. I abhor Idol.

However, should SMDS bomb I'd expect Survivor will be restored to Thursday at 8. TBBT would then go back to Monday's at 9:30 (I don't expect 'Mike and Molly' to do much).

  6. So they are basicly using it as filler between Survivor seasons.

Survivor was moved to Wednesdays. CBS does seemingly want SMDS to succeed or they wouldn't have paired it with The Big Bang Theory.

I don't know if that's a good thing for Survivor or not. It started out on Wednesdays back in 2000 with it's first season but has been on Thursday ever since.

I'd hate to think that Survivor is being bumped for something like this show. I like Shatner and all but the whole concept of this show just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I don't think Survivor is being bumped. That would imply that it was unsuccessful. Survivor is still a strong show for CBS. I think this is more about CBS trying to build a second strong comedy night. It hasn't panned out on Wednesday (and ABC has managed to do it in one season). So they've decided to try it on Thursday with one of their strongest shows (TBBT) and a show that complements it well (in the sense that a lot of people who like TBBT are probably apt to watch Shatner).

  7. This could potentially end up doing alright. My thinking was that it was dependent on where it was put on the schedule. CBS has typically had two comedy nights: Monday and Wednesday. However, they've changed things up and now $#*! My Dad Says is going to between The Big Bang Theory and CSI on Thursday nights (8:30 ET). That's potentially a really good spot for it. Those are two of the more popular shows on the network and both sort of attract the kind of viewers who probably won't mind seeing more of Shatner (i.e. nerds).

Personally, I'll probably end up watching it because I'll need something to watch between TBBT and Fringe/The Office (if Fringe is off for the week). I was going to check it out anyway because it seems like Shatner could make this work.

  8. I also noticed something about Sloan last night that I hadn't noticed before, but that's another thread. I'll post it if I can't find a reference to it somewhere eles in our database.

You mean the bar under his rank insignia in Inquisition?

Yeah, I don't recall ever noticing it before. Either that or old age is catching up with my memory lol

I never noticed it before either, but I haven't seen Inquisition in a long time.

There is no definitive answer, some theorize Sloan was a Fleet Captain (or at least posing as one) but was addressed by title (Deputy Director of Internal Affairs, or simply Director) and therefore it never came up. Like I said, I haven't seen it in a while, so I don't know if that is necessarily the case.

  9. Evidently the reason Leslie didn't appear in any movies is because health concerns (i.e. headaches and back problems) forced Eddie Paskey to retire and he stopped acting during TOS' third season. He decided against auditioning for TMP and apparently when he did try to get back into Hollywood all of his contacts were gone.

As for why there is no action figure, I don't know. Probably because for the most part they tend not to go that obscure.

  10. I don't think I've ever actually watched an episode of "Family Guy"

Then you've lost out. Its the funniest show on TV!

Please. Family Guy hasn't been funny consistently (if at all) since it came back from cancellation and it's been getting even worse lately. South Park was right, the show is written by manatees.

The Simpsons always has been and always will be the superior television series. Hell, in my opinion The Simpsons is the greatest series in the history of television (and I realize I'm saying that on a Star Trek message board). I acknowledge it may not be as good as it once was (but it is still eminently watchable) but quite frankly, nothing is as good as The Simpsons was in its prime.

  11. How come it took Star Trek 11 movies to win an Oscar in make-up? Did the Oscar people not see Star Trek 2, 4, or First Contact? I say these ones because of they have some of the best make-up in all of the Star Trek movies...

First Contact, yeah, (it was nominated but lost to the Nutty Professor) but Star Trek 2 and Star Trek 4 for make-up? I suppose the Starfleet Command scenes in 4 (which are just a fraction of the movie), but I don't see 2. There are barely any aliens in Star Trek 2, really only Spock and Saavik. I suppose some of the blood work, but really that's a stretch. I'd put all of the other movies ahead of Star Trek 2 for make-up. I'm not trying to cut you up, I just don't see it.

For the record, The Undiscovered Country was also nominated in this category but lost to Terminator 2.

Anyway, Star Trek totally deserved this honour. There are make-ups in this movie that look like CG but aren't. For instance, that alien at the bar between Kirk and Uhura: that's real make-up! Plus, Keenser, Alnschloss K'Bentayr, both Spocks, all the Romulans, not to mention all the deleted aliens from the Rura Penthe scenes.

  12. Jack, do you have a three year calendar to mark off each day? lol

Since they have so much time to make this movie, does that mean it will be twice as good???

No, I just worked it out. I did a countdown for Star Trek XI (both in theatres and DVD) on my MSN, so I jokingly worked it out for Star Trek XII and posted that there.

They really don't have that much more time work on it. Star Trek XI was announced in April 2006 (and Abrams and company contacted in late 2005) and is was released in May 2009, so roughly three years. Star Trek XII was announced on March 30, 2009 and will be released in June 2012. So again, roughly three years.

I'm just glad they're taking their time and not trying to rush it like Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Well, that's biggest problem was that is was rushed through the writers' strike, not just that it was rushed.
