  1. There is a West African proverb quoted often by some very well known orators I'm sure you're familiar with. I believe it describes Sisko (and Brooks' performance) pretty well: "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Sisko has a soft voice but he's no fool. He rises to the occasion and will ensure DS9 isn't vulnerable.

While he may not be my favorite of all the Captains/Commanders he still gets the job done. I agree, give the show some time.

  2. Second Chances where Will meets his double, due to a transporter accident that occurred 8 years earlier. The double (who now calls himself, Tom) and Troi find they’re still in love but Deanna decides not to accompany him when Lieutenant Riker tells her he’s been posted to another starship.

  3. At the beginning I liked Janeway.  I liked the idea of having a woman captain and I liked Kate Mulgrew.  However I ended up hating what the writers did to her.  They ended up making her weak and wishy-washy.

I can't disagree with much of what you wrote. However, I find it supremely ironic considering how hard TPTB practically killed themselves to make her a strong leader. In fact, they went so far overboard they really hurt the character of Chakotay in the process. He became so subordinate to her [b/c the producers wanted her to "be in charge."] He was able to get "some of his own back" in a couple of episodes like Scorpion and Equinox but those were few and far between. Robert Beltran has acknowledged the frustration he felt at what happened to Chakotay. And then of course when Seven of Nine came on board it became the Janeway/Seven show. But that's another topic for another day....

  4. As for my dislike of For the World is Hollow... I think it's twofold.  I had a problem with McCoy as the "love" interest.  It just didn't ring true.

In the DS9 episode that had the defiant back in time interacting with Kirk's Enterprise during the incident with the tribbles, Jadzia Dax reminisced about McCoy when he was a student at 'Ole Miss" and about what wonderful hands he had. She was recalling the interaction of her symbiot's old host who had apparently had interacted with the doctor before he was a doctor....So Natira was not the only one who found him attractive.......

What can I tell you, I just felt he was too old for Natira and as I said, I found her character quite annoying. (That's just a personal opinion).

I should probably add the episode felt very artificial. It was wrapped up a bit too quickly. I realize it was an hour show...but perhaps a 2-parter at least?

  5. FYI - Spike will have a marathron but they will run only the first three seasons from Emissary to The Search Part II. Base on the pattern I've seen them using in their TNG showing, it's logical to assume this network will broadcast these episodes and these episodes only but at random after the marathron. I am afraid you maybe in for some disappointing viewing.

So if I understand you correctly, the marathon should run the first 3 seasons (from Emissary to The Search, Part II) in order and then when they start broadcasting at 7 pm weeknights they'll start from Season 1 but will jump around?

    Thanks.

  6. It's unbelieveable to look at the fuss created regarding "the kiss" -- 40 years later. First of all, they had to be "forced" to do it. That was probably the only way to get it past the NBC censors. Secondly, Kirk and Uhura talked through practically the entire thing. And when they weren't talking Kirk was glowering at the Platonians -- so it was quite obvious nobody was having a good time.

  7. LOL, Zagreus -- the one where Paris goes past Warp 10 is Threshold so you pretty much joined the majority. I forgot the Flotter eps. You're right; they were pretty awful. But I agree there definitely were more good than bad.

Tsk, Chronic, please tell your roommate this is the 21st Century, not the 11th. BTW, very cool avatar.

  8. In my opinion the all time worst episode was in season 2.....the episode called "Threshold" where Tom Paris mutates into some sort of reptile, eventually kidnaps Janeway;  they mate and produce other little reptiles....I found this episode quite ridiculous...............There were many Voyager episodes that I truly enjoyed over the course of the seven year series...too numerous to list them all but  I will name a few......Caretaker, The Gift, Scorpion., Muse, Faces, Remember, and Workforce.

and i don't hate the Chakotay eps that went into his Native American background, but it got a little annoying to me at times

Interesting thing about Threshold. Other than Seven of Nine, I've seen a ton of fanfiction written about this episode. People seem to add onto it or change the players around. Personally, I didn't find it good or bad.

Regarding the Chakotay spiritual eps. -- I agree -- they did get tiresome; however, I really feel TPTB did his character a disservice. He seemed to fade into the background in order to ensure the Captain was in command. I've read they did this b/c they were worried the audience wouldn't believe a female Captain would be taken seriously by the core ST audience. Be that as it may, this really hurt the Chakotay character, IMHO. And, when Seven came on board, well forget it! It became the Janeway/Seven show. Kate Mulgrew admitted it in several interviews. She felt not only Chakotay -- but the rest of the crew were reduced to supporting roles. Thankfully, Chakotay got back a bit of his own in Equinox, but eps. such as those were few and far between.

    Sorry for the rant...

  9. $63+ a month...I'm not sure it's worth it WEAREBORG4102.

:o $63 a month?!? Whoever your cable company is is royally ripping you off. Cox Cable charges $9.95 for basic cable here.

Well, that does include a 2-for-1 deal for HBO/SHO. If I didn't have that it would be another $12.95/month! :P

I'd love to get a satellite but can't in my apt. building :o

  10. Best: City on the edge of forever

    Worst: The Managerie, Miri

Hey! How could anyone not like For the World is Hollow... and The Trouble with Tribbles??

Seems as if we have a real consensus regarding the least favorite episode...Spock's Brain seems to be in the heavy rotation.

As for my dislike of For the World is Hollow... I think it's twofold. I had a problem with McCoy as the "love" interest. It just didn't ring true. And second, I found the character of Natira quite annoying.

  11. BEST

Time and Again; Deadlock; Eye of the Needle; Flashback (only for TOS nostalgia); Future's End; Distant Origin; Scorpion; Scientific Method; Year of Hell; Prey; The Killing Game (just for the grandeur); Living Witness; Body and Soul; In the Flesh (gotta love Boothby); Someone to Watch Over Me; Relativity; Equinox (best part C. was given in too long); Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy; One Small Step (cried throughout); Blink of an Eye; Shattered

    HONORABLE MENTION

Warlord (only for Kes’ performance); Macrocosm (b/c every Star Trek series needs an ep. where the Cpt. saves the crew) see also The Haunting of Deck Twelve – but not as good, IMHO; Threshold & Bride of Chaotica (for the "camp" factor alone); Resistance – Gotta love a Cpt. who uses her “feminine wiles”; The Thaw – really disliked this one at first but it grew on me; Resolutions (Ah, the love affair that wasn’t. Set the stage for the producers to give C. a lesser role than he should have had throughout the rest of the series); Q2 – gotta love the bathtub scene; Workforce (Just for J. {it had been soooo long})

    WORST

Heros and Demons; Elogium; Initiations; Tattoo; Lifesigns; Sacred Ground; Fair Trade; Real Life; Gravity; 11:59; The Fight; Nightingale; Prophecy; Tuvix (I know many people really liked this one but he just annoyed the heck out of me)

  12. BEST

The Cage; Balance of Terror; Tomorrow is Yesterday

The City on the Edge of Forever; A Taste of Armageddon; Mirror, Mirror

Journey to Babel; Spectre of the Gun; Let That Be Your Last Battlefield;Amok Time

    WORST

The Man Trap; What Are Little Girls Made Of?; This Side of Paradise

Friday's Child; The Omega Glory; Spock's Brain; For the World is Hollow...

And, even though most people I know detested Turnabout Intruder, I didn't think it was THAT bad.

  13. Kes put me to sleep and Neelix made me nauseous. I'd have to say Janeway and Seven were the best except for the fact that the show became too heavily concentrated on them on the in the latter years. Kate Mulgrew admitted it in interviews and I definitely agree. Robert Beltran was hardly used and his character really got hurt. I'd like to have seen more of Chakotay and B'elanna.
