Remembering Guest Star Joseph Campanella, 1924-2018

StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of prolific character actor and Star Trek: Voyager guest star Joseph Campanella, who died on Wednesday, May 16 at the age of 93, according to his family. His succumbed to natural causes at his home in Sherman Oaks, California.

Campanella was an Emmy and Tony nominee who boasted more than 200 film and television credits and enjoyed a career that spanned decades. Among the New York City-born actor's credits were The Bold Ones, The Fugitive, Mission: Impossible, Mannix, The St. Valentine's Day Massacre, Ben, One Day at a Time, Baywatch, The Colbys, Days of Our Lives, The Love Boat, Guiding Light, The Practice, Beauty & the Beast, The Bold and the Beautiful and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He also voiced Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard for the animated Spider-Man series from 1994-1997.

The actor ventured into the Star Trek universe with a one-off guest shot on Voyager. He played the Federation Arbitrator in the episode "Author, Author." Back in a 2004 interview with Starlog Magazine, he said that his Trek stink "has gotten me an amazing reaction from people. I receive all kinds of fan mail and requests for pictures from that one appearance."

Campanella, who was also a World War II veteran, is survived by Jill, his wife of more than 50 years, their seven sons, and eight grandchildren. Please join StarTrek.com in offering our condolences to Campanella's family, friends, colleagues and fans.
