Display Settings

For the perpose of this Discution I will define Desplay Settings as Resolution and Colour Depth.

Resolution = the dimetions of the screen 640 X 480, 800,600 ect

Colour Depth = number of colours that can be displayed on the screen.

OK so what has all this got to do with slow down?

for a demonstation I will say I have a Display setting of 800X600X32 bit Colour Depth.

the screen you are looking at now is taking up Video Memory(VRAM) and to find out how much Memory it uses simply turn the Display setting into math. So for my demonstration setting it would be 800 x 600 x 32 = 15360000bits thats just over 15 MBs of memory and on a 32meg Video card thats just under half the capasity.

So think what it would be if your settings where 1280X1024X64 bit colour

83886080 thats nearly 84 meg and that would be eating into the system memory.
