Big_Steve 0 Posted December 23, 2003 Did the movie "Forbidden Planet" influence Gene Roddenberry's creation of Star Trek? Captain Kirk is a dead ringer for Commander Adams.
Admiral Kirk 1 Posted December 29, 2003 When I first really saw Forbidden Planet years ago I thought this has to be one of GR's inspirations for Star Trek. I mean the Naval ranking syetem and even some of the technology is a dead ringer for early trek I think it was a heavy inspiration on the first pilot (The Cage). Captain Bolivar 0 Posted December 29, 2003 Well I've never seen this movie, but I'm going to see if I can find it at Blockbuster now that you've brought it to my attention. Thanks.

Theunicornhunter 2 Posted December 30, 2003 I had always heard Forbidden Planet was inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest so I guess "there really is nothing new under the son". Just my opinion but I don't think FP had any more influence than other SciFi of the era and even non-scifi shows like Wagon Train.
