VaBeachGuy 12 Posted October 10, 2003 I don't know (or don't remember) any official explanation of how they came up with the name but it's just a description of what they are doing. They (The crew) are on a Trek, or voyage through the stars. The name fits so well and describes the major theme of the shows perfectly I believe.
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted October 10, 2003 I just skimmed through the prefaces of my Trek reference books and I find nowhere does GR explain the origins of the title, Gene always referrers to it as Star Trek even before the idea was sold. The closest I can find to an answer is when Gene speaks of knowing the success of Lost in Space and wanting his new show to be a Wagon Train (another successful show of that time) to the stars. I speculate he formed the title based on those two shows.
