Kor37 9 Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Boy, 4, breaks into Texas store, plays with toys BEAUMONT, Texas -Police called to a variety store by a burglar alarm overnight found a toddler inside, playing with the toys. Police said store surveillance video showed the unidentified boy trying to open one of the front doors to a Family Dollar store about 3 a.m. Monday, only to find it locked. But the second door was unlocked and the child went inside. That triggered the silent alarm. Detective Randy Stevens said the child apparently unlocked a door at his nearby home, got out, then crossed a multilane street to reach the store. A canvass of the neighborhood turned up a family member searching for the child. CPS spokeswoman Shari Pulliam said Child Protective Services claimed oversight of a 4-year-old boy during a review of the incident. The boy will be allowed to stay with other relatives, not the parents, during the CPS review period. Edited December 16, 2008 by Kor37
He Who Shall Not Be Named 2 Posted December 16, 2008 If the kid had only waited until Christmas he might have gotten the toys. Now he is getting coal.
Theunicornhunter 2 Posted December 16, 2008 It is really a tragedy to lose your child just before Christmas. Maybe these parents are true deadbeats on the other hand you can't tell just from the fact they sneaked out. They were out looking for him and kids do get up and sneak out when no one's watching. trekz 7 Posted December 16, 2008 There most probably is, as there often is with such accounts, more to the story. What annoyed me about coverage of this was that news anchors showed the videotape and talked about this being a child's dream come true - having the whole toy store to himself. The child is lucky he wasn't struck by a speeding car, traumatized by the police officers, or shot as a burglar. This is not funny imo but an example of the need to be constantly aware of what your children are doing. Acting like there is humor in this situation is not helpful imo. mj 7 Posted December 21, 2008 3am? Most 4 yr olds are sound asleep. Why was the child awake, and how did he have the presence of mind to cross a highway and go to a store, and play at that time of the night? I think CPS was right to take the child from the parents, and investigate.
