Boy, 9, Fights Off Coyote With Snowboard

 

(Dec. 8) - Tony Sandlin, 9, and his 6-year-old brother, Vincent, were snowboarding on a golf course behind their Erie, Colo., home Thursday when a coyote came out of nowhere and charged Tony, tearing through his clothing and puncturing his skin.

 

The attack took Tony by surprise, but as the animal circled to take another go at him, he was ready.

"I whacked him," Tony said, demonstrating how he swung his snowboard. The animal eventually took off, leaving Vincent untouched.

Wildlife officials said the coyote's behavior was strange because the attack was unprovoked. Rabies is a possibility, and Tony is part way through a course of treatment that will require five rounds of shots.

At least the kid was thinking and convinced the animal to leave him alone. I hope it wasn't rabies
