Palindromic #s

Recommended Posts

This is actually something that I typed out a while ago which was going to be an edition for Star Trek & Physics Weekly. (I'm just going to show a portion of it. Hopefully a few will find it interesting)

Edition 60: The Language of the Universe IV: Palindromics

[. . .]

~~PALINDROMES~~

Palindrome: Is a #, word, poem, / sentence that when you read it forward and backwards it is the same

It comes from the Greek word "running back again"

**Examples**

"101" read backwards as "101" so it's a palindromic #!

"MOM" reads backwards as "MOM"

One good example of a palindrome is one that was crated by Jon Agee:

"GO HANG A SALAMI! I’M A LASAGNA HOG"

Look at the first letter and the last then the second one and the second to last. As you can see it is in fact a palindrome

Palindromic # Conjecture

*1) Pick a #

213

*2) Write the # backwards

312

*3) Add the 2 #s

213 + 312 = 525 And now in this case we have a palindrome!

*4) If you don't get a palindrome then use the # you have and go to step 2 and go through the process until you have a palindromic #

Palindromic Constant: (Rivera) about 3.369

Palindrome #s has a constant when you add there reciprocals

(tested using all palindromic #s < 10^7 +1 )

Some #s don't work with the Palindromic # Conjecture

All the #s from 1 to 100,000 there are 5,996 #s that don't work
