Entry # 1

 

Recovering from Isabel.

My house lost power at 7:14 PM EST on Thursday evening, and it has only recently returned. While the storm was raging, I had to go outside and look for my cat (1 AM), and now sport a few bruises as a result.

 

Anticipating no power for a week, I went to stay in a DC hotel. A few funny moments resulted, as it allows pets.

I was in a room next to a veritable zoo.

 

So, when I couldn't take a nap due to the noise, I went downstairs, only to find that only one elevator was working, and I had to wait in a mob consisting of 3 bellhops with carts, a mother and stroller, a cat, 4 dogs, 10 Secret Service agents and the Brazilian ambassador & entourage.

The elevator finally came down, and promptly shut on the ambassador's briefcase and went up.

I am not making this up.
