Why are there "anniversary" threads?

Recommended Posts

The question has been asked: Why are there "anniversary" threads for people that never visit or have never posted?

Well the answer is actually simple, those anniversary threads not only make a post on the board but once the post is made it generates an email and a PM to that member congratulating them on their anniversary.

Why is that desirable? Well, if the member's email address is still valid they will get the email and hopefully return to the board and begin posting again.

So it's not only congratulating them on their X Year anniversary, it's inviting them to come back to the board and join in the discussion.

Simple as that and nothing "sinister".

is their a way to email them without having a page of all recent topics bein anniversary threads, I mean if you want to check out a recent topic, it can be hard to fine cause all you see on the main page are those threads

just wondering

I think a congratulatory email is a great idea for the reasons mentioned above. However, Itchygomba69 is right when he says it really clogs up the board. Some really good threads are going unnoticed because they are being buried by the congrats threads.

There's only 3 or 4 per day, sometimes maybe 5 or 6 sometimes maybe less. In January we may have a few days with 20 or 30 for a few days due to when ST.COM shut down it's chat room but we have 6 months before that comes up.
