Police arrest naked man claiming to be Christ, George Bush

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County sheriff's deputies fired a Taser gun four times Friday before restraining a naked Pinson man who claimed to be Jesus Christ and George Bush.

 

Richard Scott Odell, 30, was treated on the scene by paramedics and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

 

Police say he appeared to be intoxicated.

 

"This guy must have been to quite a party or he is quite a party himself," sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Randy Christian told The Birmingham News. "It isn't everyday our deputies run into a naked man standing in the middle of the highway. I guess they have truly seen it all now, no pun intended."

 

A motorist called deputies around 4 a.m. to alert them that the man was standing nude in the middle of Alabama 79. As the motorist approached the man, he stumbled toward the car and was struck by the car's mirror, authorities said. The man then ran away and the motorist called police.

 

Deputies arrived and ordered Odell to the ground. After he refused, authorities said, he was struck by the Taser several times and at one point pulled the wires out of his chest.

 

He complied after being shot a fourth time and deputies restrained him with handcuffs and leg irons.

 

Odell told deputies he was Jesus Christ and George Bush and that he could break the handcuffs.

 

Center Point Fire and Rescue came to the scene to remove the remaining Taser wires from his chest and back.
