I was watching the show American Dad on Sdult Swim right now and the lead figure Stan Smith said talking about Star Trek he watches them all, except DS9 he refuses to watch that garbage...WTF its the best serious :(

I don't know MacFarlane seems like a pretty smart guy despite the low brow shenigans featured on his shows. I'm betting this was probably just more of a joke, maybe even showing how dumb Stan Smith is. If not, oh well, to each his own.

I bet it was some type of in joke. For all we know DS9 might be Seth MacFarlane's favourite series and whoever wrote that particular episode was poking fun at him.

Seth MacFarlane is known to be a huge Trek fan. Don't forget he was on Enterprise twice. He's also used lots of Trek alumni to voice characters on both American Dad (Patrick Stewart for example) and Family Guy.
