Kor37 9 Posted March 3, 2008 Standoff ends when deputies find man asleepAP Posted: 2008-03-03 10:13:41 WEST POINT, Iowa (AP) - A standoff with a suspected gunman ended when deputies entered his apartment and found him asleep in bed. Lee County sheriff's deputies set up barricades for blocks around Joshua Garr's apartment building early Sunday and evacuated more than a dozen nearby residents after his sister reported he planned to shoot someone. Four hours later, after failing to contact Garr by phone or loudspeaker, deputies protected themselves with shields and entered the apartment. They found Garr asleep in bed. An unloaded .50-caliber handgun was in the apartment but there was no ammunition. "He was passed out, and there were no problems," Lee County Sheriff Buck Jones said. No charges have been filed, and the incident is not under investigations, Jones said. Garr was taken to Fort Madison Community Hospital for evaluation. Gee....those deputies must have been REAL intimidating.....
