master_q 0 Posted August 24, 2003 Happy Vulcan Day!August 23, 2003 Vulcan (Latin Volcanus), in Roman mythology, the god of fire. Originally an old Italian deity who seems to have been associated with volcanic fire, Vulcan was identified with the Greek god Hephaestus in classical times. At Rome his festival, the Volcanalia, was celebrated on August 23. He was particularly revered at Ostia, where his was the principal cult. - Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library Of course for our intentions we are not celebrating "Vulcan" in terms of Roman mythology, Hephaestus, or anything to that nature. We are celebrating the Vulcans in Star Trek. As you know Star Trek’s Vulcan culture is a very rich in content. Even people that have never seen an episode of Star Trek have probably heard of that “pointed eared man.” Star Trek has become linked with that “pointed eared man” and this has been linked with our culutre today.
