Paramount Scouting Trek XI Locations In Iceland

Recommended Posts

Could the new Trek film follow 'Batman Begins' and 'Flag of our Fathers' in capitalising on Iceland's expansive landscapes and even more expansive tax breaks?

Location scouts from Paramount Pictures are currently looking at Iceland as a possible place to shoot scenes for the new Star Trek film.

According to a report in today's edition of the Reykavik-based newspaper DV, Paramount representatives are working with local film production company Sagafilm to find suitable shooting locations. Saga previously assisted on the shooting of James Bond film such as View to a Kill and Die Another Day, as well as films such as Tomb Raider and Batman Begins.

Iceland has grown increasingly popular as a shooting location for Hollywood films over the past few years. Partially this is because of the rugged landscape that could easily fill the role of an alien planet, but partially also because of tax breaks instituted by the Iceland government that allow production companies to reclaim up to 14% of their production costs from the Iceland Treasury.

Besides getting word from Saga that Paramount had sent its location scouts to Iceland, DV had little other information on Trek XI. In fact, the newspaper's story was accompanied by photos of Matt Damon and Adrien Brody to illustrate the stars that have been rumored to be in the running for the new film, despite those rumors having already been discredited.

Thanks go out to Eysteinn Kristjánsson for sending this in!
