Making water from thin air

I saw this technology on a special program about hurricane preparedness the other night

 

anyway basically it is a machine that can take moisture out of the air and make drinking water. The immediate applications are for military deployments and emergency responders after hurricanes or other disasters.

 

I couldn't help but think how could this be used for space exploration and planetary colonization. (obviously planets would have to have some atmosphere for it to work)

I didn't know this tech existed. Pretty cool. It should also be standard equipment in boats in case they get stranded at sea.

It's really not that special. All you need is a dehumidifier and a water purifier, and those have been around for decades.
