Stephen of Borg 2 Posted May 27, 2007 DENVER The bubonic plague outbreak at City Park has now claimed the life of a cat. Someone found the cat near Denver's City Park. That's where 16 dead squirrels have tested positive for the plague. The state health department says cats can get the plague relatively easily and that it usually happens after they eat rodents. "If possible you should be confining your cat ... keeping it indoors or keeping it in the yard," state Department of Public Health epidemiologist John Pape said. "If it's roaming free throughout the neighborhood you have no idea what it's eating and what it's exposed to." The plague also killed a monkey at the Denver Zoo this week. Health officials said they expect the number of plague cases to grow
