A Poem

Recommended Posts

I thought I had posted this at the start of hostile action but it doesn't look like I did.

This was given to me by a Chaplin when I was in the Army in 1988 in training and it's always touched me so I want to share it with everyone here. For both supporters of the military action and for those that are against the action I think we can all agree that the Soldiers deserve our support and thoughts and prayers.

Soldier

I was that which others did not want to be.

I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do.

I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal lonliness...should I fail.

I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear, and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love.

I have cried, pained, and hoped.....but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.

At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was.....

A Soldier.

With Veterans Day coming on November 11th in the US, Remembrance Day in Canada and Remembrance Sunday coming tomorrow in the UK I thought it proper to bring this poem back for all to read again.
