There has been a change in dates for this convention: It's now scheduled for September 1 and 2. Sadly the date change has resulted in Brent Spiner being unable to attend. :roflmao: Other guests are checking their schedules.

I have a question: Is this a longtime convention, and is it run by a reliable company? The reason I ask is that I may consider going over for this convention and other London & England events at that time period. If anyone has experience attending this convention, or one hosted by this company, would you please reply or send me a pm? Thanks!!! - trekz

if you live in the USA, I don't think that it would be a good idea. in America the conventions are much greater and the guests normally speak on the stage, meanwhile in England nobody cares about the importance to organize a decent talk with the public, indeed only a few guests speak with the people and you must do a long queue before you can arrive to your actor and you can speak with him only for a few minutes during the autograph.

If I would be you, I would try to go to TREKTRAK in Atlanta, which is scheduled in the same period, but it is thought only for ttrekkies and trekkers.

I hope that it would be helpful for you

Unluckily - after the bad news that brent cannot come to london this year, because the date of this event has been changed :) - I have read that PATRICK STEWART will be only on Sunday 2 September at the convention, because he must play in a theatre on Saturday.

however, I cannot go there, but I will see brent in Italy in 2008.

Well, we received our tickets for this event today. We are doing several other things in England, including attending Twelth Night and seeing Patrick Stewart in Chichester, going to York, Portsmouth, and the Isle of Wight, but will be attending this Con on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to seeing Patrick, I hope to attend a few of the talks and get other autographs. The question is, will Louise Fletcher be there after missing the last two Vegas conventions she was supposed to be at? Will no doubt be lots of standing in line but should be a new experience.

Even if I had that kind of cash on hand, I don't think I'd travel all the way to England for a Trek Convention.

I'm not big on going overseas. :roflmao:

I am hardly a superfan. This con just works into my vacation schedule - we're doing lots other things in England, including going to a couple palaces while the royals are on vacation. This vacation will cost however. The exchange rate on the pound is awful. :roflmao: But I love England and will have a good time!

We leave tonight for London, so I will be offline most of the next two weeks. If I get a chance, I'll update you on my trip and this con. I'll be back online as usual around Sept. 6th. Take care all!

Reporting from London: Thanks Kor! So far trip has been great. Just finished dinner after end of 2nd and last day of Con. It was fun. Went to several presentations. Most of both of the Star Wars ones, the Ladies of Star Trek - with Nana Visitor and Louise Fletcher - the Harry Potter one, one with Mads Madigan - (Casino Royale villain) and the Lost one. All were interesting though we left the HP one becouse it was too hard to hear. Got bunches of autographs - Louise Fletcher! (she was there both days!), Patrick Stewart, Michael Gross, Kenny Baker (SW), Tom Baker Dr. WHo), Dominic M - (LOTR and Lost) and a bunch of Heroes people including Hayden P.

Lines were long, especially Sunday, but guests were nice. The poor accomidations of the convention (old hall, poor sound system) and mass confusion with lines makes me more charitable towards Creation.

Best talks were Mad M - very interesting, - Nana V and Louise F. - and the Star Wars ones. There was a producer there - Gary Kreutz I believe - who was fascinating and had lots of inside SW info. Most attended was the Lost one which was interesting but I haven't seen that much of show.

Fun con - will write more details when I come home.

Went to Chichester to see Patrick Stewart on Wednesday - had a great time, and he was awesome in Twelvth Night as Malvolio - had some real "chewing the scenery" scenes. Also saw the Star Wars exhibit in London - which was fun.

More later. Take care all!

eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh!

you are a commodore now! shame, because these voyages are very simply! it is very simple to fly from America to Europe and from Europe to America! It is a very long trip, it is true, but I have made this trip to las vegas last year and I am happy! but indeed I didn't go there, as I said before, because I wanted to see only brent. and now I am waiting for him ... I am counting the days before his next convention in Italy!

I'm happy to know that it was a great convention. Indeed, the English conventions are located in small places, but they are very funny because the people are very alive! and there is the atmosphere of a great family, I appreciated a lot the English style in 2004.

Indeed, I'm a Spiner's fan. I appreciate the performance of Stewart only in the X-Men series. His portait as Xavier is great.

Report and comments on Star Trek guests talk given at London Film and Comic Con:

Women of Star Trek: Diana Muldaur cancelled late, so Nana Visitor and Louise Fletcher spoke.

Nana said her favorite show was "Duet," which became a strong show even though it was a "Bottle show." (shot with existing sets to save money). Lousie Fletcher replied that her most favorite show was with Frank Langella, but that she loved all the episodes she was in (16-18) and would have loved to have been a series regular. Louise mentioned she has never had steady work as an actress. Nana added that she always noticed the contrast of how nasty Louise acted as the Kai onstage and then came off and was delightful, with a ready laugh.

Talking about costumes and makeup, Nana said the worst was the Intendent costume, where she required a huge fan on her so she didn't constantly sweat. Nana also mentioned she didn't realize that the Bajoran nose was put on with real glue, which normally took over twenty minutes to remove. Nana said she tried to take it off herself early on and left herself with scars that permanently "Bajoranized" her! Louise joked about her costume as the "Pope in Space" look! Nana commented on how tough it was for Rene A. to have his Odo face on for 12 hours at a time, and how bizarre it was to have an intense conversation of various topics with Armin S. and suddenly realize she was talking to a huge butthead! (Referring to his face makeup, not his personality!)

Lousie mentioned taking acting classes with Jack Nickolson, who she starred with in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," and described Jack as a real professional to work with. Louise mentioned she enjoyed working with Nana, and Philip Anglund(?), and that Armin could usually make her laugh. Nana loved working with Louise and Rene A. Nana commented on her parents naming the children odd names, and said that by the time she was born they did away with middle names, so she has none! Louise commented seriously on her character and on some people in real life not thinking of what they do as evil, but as right and justified in their circumstances. The problem Louise saw was that they won't examine their way of doing things and that they can't empathize with the other side.

Nana talked about living in New Mexico (and that some people think she lives in Mexico and must speak Spanish!). Louise mentioned a film she's doing being shot in Montreal, called "Daddy's Christmas."

For me, it was a wonderful talk, having never heard Louise Fletcher speak in person, and Nana is rapidly becoming one of my favorite convention guests, with her enthusiasm and graciousness toward all. An excellent talk imo, and the second most well attended of the six I saw, after the "Lost" one!

Report on Star Wars Talks at London Film and Comic Con, Sept 1-2, 2007:

The talks had mostly different people on stage, with some different actors appearing Saturday and Sunday, with the exception of Procducer Gary Kurtz, who had some of the most interesting comments. Among the comments from the cast members for Talk 1 on Saturday:

The action was shot in bits and pieces and at one point a special camera was needed for a particular kind of shot. When it was brought to the shooting site, cast members noticed the plaque on the side of the camera

which proclaimed that the camera had been used in shooting "Gone with the Wind." The cast was quite impressed and excited about that.

It was considered to be a "great experience" by most, with many people making life-long friends.

One of the Aliens, played by an actress, had to played by someone who was a size 10 becuase of the size of the costume. Deep Roy, who played Yoda, was (obviously) chosen for his size. The stand in for Billy Dee Williams, also did a variety of stunt work, and commented on how wonderful Billy dee Williams was. One of the cast gave the opinion that the worst film couple were the young actors, including Portman, in the Clone movies.

Producer Gary Kurtz made a wide variety of remarks: Casting calls depended on the look and size of actors needed. Darth Vader and Chewbacca both required large tall actors, and even so there were elevators put in Chewbacca's costume to make him even taller.

Kurtz said Lucas wrote up Star Wars as a story outline that needed to be filled in. The comment was made that the best visual effects are the "ones you don't notice," and that the newer three Star Wars films were overwhelmed by visual effects, rather than letting the story carry the action. Kurtz mentioned Dark Crystal and American Graffitti both of which he worked on. At one point in discussing film, Kurtz quoted William Goldman who said, "Nobody knows anything in the film business." Kurtz mentioned that the big Star Wars pitch was that there were enough Sci Fi fans that would see the movie that "You can make your money back!" Kurtz gave a nod to the fifties Sci Fi movies for building an audience and an interest that made the blockbuster Science Fiction films of the 70's and beyond possible.

Star Wars Talk 2 on Saturday included Kurtz and a different group of actors. In answer to a question about the difficulties of filming: Carrie Fisher's stunt double complained about the awful heat in the desert. An actor that portrayed a Storm Trooper told about the shooting scenes that used bullets and how a hot cartridge went down his back during shooting, making him squirm so much trying to shake it out that the scene had to be reshot! HE also mentioned that pieces of the Storm Trooper armopur would fall off during scenes and that actors would trip over them.

Producer Kurtz talked about the difficulty of shooting the film in Norway, The site had been carefully scouted, but just before filming 18 feet of snow fell. Tunnels had to be dug through the snow to get the crew from the Railway Station to the Lodge where they stayed. It became an unbielievably difficult shoot taking three times as long as estimated for shooting.

Kurtz, in answer to a question, talked about the snow tunnel collapse scene and how they shot it on a stage with ground up pieces of foam being shot out of cannons to make it look like snow. HE also talked about the huge difficulty of matching real snow scenes from the location shoot with the white of the foam shot on a sound stage. Matching white on white was a near impossible thing, Kurtz said.

In the opening of Star Wars there were 36 different film elements to be put together and that was a tremendous cahllenge according to Kurtz.

Various actors commented on the joy of making Star Wars movies, and how nice the lead actors were that they met. One commented that they knew the actor playing R2D2 very well before the movie and went to visit him a couple years later, and couldn't help noting how much nicer a house he now had! Kurtz commented how he satisfied he was to see STar Wars made, but that his favorite film was The Empire Strikes Back.

IMO, the talks were a highlight of the convention. According to Kurtz a book about the back stage making of Star Wars will come out in a year of so. I can't wait!
