Theunicornhunter 2 Posted December 31, 2006 So what events affected you most this year; most of the magazine sites list the top 10 news events and granted they all affect us but I don't always agree with their editors choices. For me the news stories that caused the most grief were the deaths of Steve Irwin and the Amish school house shootings. Irwin was sort of personal hero and I was saddened by his death. The murder of the Amish girls was one of the sickest, most depraved acts of violence I have ever read about. It still makes me ill to think of it. The murder of the former Soviet spy by radiation poisoning was another creepy story because of it's bizarre nature. Because I live in Florida and work in insurance - the absence of hurricans this year was an event. In personal events I guess we were quite lucky - a couple of new great nephews but no tragedies. One of the more pleasant memories of the year is watching my grand nieces play softball - it wasn't so much watching them but remembering how much fun America's favorite passtime can be - later evening games were more fun because it is still very hot here at 6:00 p.m. But just sitting under the stars watching kids play softball is kind of peaceful. youbroughtheryouRiker 2 Posted December 31, 2006 The Lisa Holland murder trial was big for me because that happened about 20 miles from where I live, and I go to church with people who knew the Hollands. The Detroit Tigers making the World Series really put a shot in the arm for us diehard Michiganders who support the teams. Being a music lover, the deaths of Wilson Pickett, Gene Pitney, Lou Rawls, James Brown, and Dennis Peyton all hit me hard (and I found out that Ahmet Ertegun and Ruth Brown had also died, but not just after they died.) Gerald Ford's death hit all Michiganders hard. A lot of personal stuff, too, but it's not worth going into, really. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
