Zoo to Teach Panda to Mate With "Porn" Videos

BANGKOK (Nov. 12) - A Thai zoo, which has hosted a couple of pandas for four years, will play "porn" videos for the male next month to encourage them to breed in captivity, the project manager said on Saturday.

 

The pair -- living chastely together at the zoo in the northern city of Chiang Mai since arriving from China in 2003 -- would be separated in December, but stay close enough for occasional glimpses of each other, said panda project chief Prasertsak Buntrakoonpoontawee.

 

"They don't know how to mate so we need to show the male how, through videos," Prasertsak told Reuters.

 

He said Chuang Chuang, the six-year-old male, would be shown the videos on a large screen when he might be feeling amorous.

 

"We'll play the video at the most comfortable and intimate time for him, perhaps after dinner," Prasertsak said, hoping Chuang Chuang would then use the techniques on Lin Hui, a five-year-old female.

 

The zoo is hosting a four-day international panda conference that starts on Monday, drawing 200 wildlife and panda specialists from around the world.

It's worth a try, Panda's are stupid, they have no survival instinct, so if this doesn't work, I'd stop giving money to charities if I were you..

Their lack of knowledge about mating may be due to their not living around other pandas that they can watch and learn from. Baby animals learn their behavior from the adult animals around them, but I'm guessing these pandas didn't have the benefit of learning anything that way. :(

 

I wonder how much they'll learn from human mating behavior. :blink: They might get better results showing panda mating videos.

I go the impression the video is of other pandas.

 

Think about if you grew up without ever seeing other humans - would you know the facts of life? I guess it isn't instinct with Pandas.

Since pandas are supposedly solitary creatures most of the time, it makes sense they might not know mcuh about mating.

 

As far as the video goes, it is probably a good idea as long as it's educational and not "panda-ring" to the panda's purient interests..... :blink:
