A program on Discovery Channel examining who were the First Americans - something that has always interested me - hope its good.

 

Apparently it is about European settlers 17000 years before Columbus.

No, not the Vikings they were much more recent.

 

Traditionally, scientists believed the First Americans crossed the Siberian land bridge about 13,000 years ago - these groups are associated withe the Clovis point which refers to the type of spear point found at one of the sites.

 

However, recent finds have called for a re-examination of that theory. One discovery, the reference used in this program (which isn't all that interesting btw) is an arrowhead simliar to that used in France about 5000 years earlier - this program is based on the Solutrean culture.

 

Another, is the discovery of Kennewick Man whose remains were discovered a few years ago. I've posted about this before.

 

There was also the discovery of the cocaine mummies - mummies in Egypt with cocaine in their remains which suggests trade routes between the old and new worlds long before they were traditionally believed to have occured.

 

Anyway, I love a good mystery.

I find such theories to be highly plausible. No one really wants to stay where they are...they want to explore. They want to take risks.

 

A lot of us here dream of space travel. Wouldn't ancient man find the sea, or vast tracks of uninhabited lands, just as inviting?

I watched the show last night, and I found it possible that people from Europe got to America crossing the ocean during the ice age. There is so much about the ancient world that we still do know, and finding that they where not as primitive or lacking imagination of finding way to bring that they want into reality.
