Memorial Day

Recommended Posts

The image at the top, which says "Everyday is Memorial Day To a Veteran" is sooo true. The memories of where they have been and what they have done don't fade with time, and neither do the memories of friends lost. World War II Veterans, now more than 60 years removed from the war in which they distinguished themselves so greatly in, still recall the battles like it was yesterday.

I saw a great bumpersticker the other day, "If you can read this, thank a teacher. And since it's in english, thank a soldier". Our troops do a tough job, and they deserve our gratitude and appreciation, and we should never forget what the cost has been to keep our country free. Someone once told me that the Bill of Rights for the Constitution was written by lawyers, businessmen, and wealthy landowners, but paid for in the blood of soldiers. And as long as there are still brave men and women willing to stand up and say "This we'll defend", America will continue to be the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Krissy:

I agree with you whole heartedly

If it were not for the men and women who have

given there lives for this great land we call

America. Could we or would we have a web site

such as this where we could speak our minds

without fear of visits in the middle of the night.

To the men and women who have given there lives

in defence of this great nation.

I as a greatful american owe you and your familys

a depth of gratatuide i or any can not repay

P.S. god bless our men and womem in uniform.

p.s.s i will make a personal rant in my personal log as not

to upset anyone you do not want to here it dont read it!

That first picture is right on the money. the local Country Station was playing Big and Rich's new song, 8th of November, and listening to it, I couldn't help thinking about How many young men that first verse applies to...

"Said goodbye to his mama,

as he left South Dakota,

to fight for the red, white and blue.

He was 19 and green,

with a new M-16,

Just doin' what he had to do...."

Every day for me really is memorial day. I'll hear a song that will get me thinking about someone I met while I was in Iraq who didn't come home, and I really don't watch the news much anymore, because honestly I cry everytime I hear about another casualty. I can't help but think that it could have been me. And I think about the families. Every soldier deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and anywhere else for that matter has a family. To the average American, he's just another soldier, but to somebody, somewhere, he or she is someone. Lonestar has a great song on one of their CD's called "Somebody's Someone" which really expresses what I mean...

Turn to the six o'clock news, another soldier dies

Tried to hide it but I couldn't help it, I had to cry

When my little boy asked me daddy was he your friend

I said no, I didn't even know him

But he was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband

A brother, a father, and a mother's only son

He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend

And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on

He was somebody's someone

So I sat there in that chair and helped him understand

How this brave young man gave his life for our land

And although he's someone we'll never know

To you and me he is a hero

He was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband

A brother, a father, and a mother's only son

He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend

And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on

He was somebody's someone

To the world he was a total stranger

Who kept us safe and out of danger

But now he's just a picture on TV

Somebody's memory

He was somebody's someone, a neighbor, a husband

A brother, a father, and a mother's only son

He was an uncle, a cousin, somebody's best friend

And I'm sure at times a shoulder to lean on

He was somebody's someone

He was somebody's someone
