Why do Admirals bother wearring red?

Recommended Posts

Didn't McCoy wear whatever the heck he wanted in TNG?  He was an admiral, right?

Don't think MCcoy was an active starfleet officer and therefore did not need to be in uniform... I guess the color red just signafies (sp) command, so why bother changing it?

Same here jdigs, if the red is command, admirals are in command, so why change. Different color would possibly be interesting, but why change it now?
