Updated on September 21, 2005

Lost airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST.

Special: Destination Lost

Airdate: September 21, 2005 at 8 p.m.

    * 09/08 - ABC once again invites new and avid "Lost" viewers to take another look at one of the most talked about shows. "Destination Lost" will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date -- but which current viewers will also find illuminating - in anticipation of the series' second season premiere. From the back stories of some of the most interesting characters on television to the mysteries of the island, "Destination Lost" will provide an insightful glimpse into the lives of some of the survivors of the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815. Narrated in a linear fashion and culminating from the pieces of the back stories told over multiple episodes in the series, "Destination Lost" focuses on the flashbacks of a core of characters -- illustrating who they were and what they were doing before the crash, and how the island has changed their lives, for better or worse. In addition, the island itself will be explored - culled from events that have taken place - which may reveal some of its secrets that might have been missed upon first viewing. Source: ABC

Episode 2.01: Man of Science, Man of Faith

Airdate: September 21, 2005

    * 09/08 - As the second season opens, one of the castaways enters the hatch and discovers its contents. Also, a survivor of the attack on the raft makes an appearance. As does Jack's wife, Sarah (Julie Bowen), in a flashback. Meanwhile, Shannon runs into a familiar fave in the jungle. Shephard: John Terry. Desmond: Henry Ian Cusack. Source: TV Guide Online

    * 09/02 - The multiple Emmy Award-nominated "Lost" returns for a second season of action-packed mystery and adventure -- that will continue to bring out the very best and the very worst in the people who are lost. [...] In the season premiere episode, "Man of Science, Man of Faith," one of the castaways is chosen to descend into the mysterious hatch, and Shannon stumbles upon a shockingly familiar face in the jungle. The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But, as they have discovered during their 40-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets. Guest starring are John Terry as Shephard, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Julie Bowen as Sarah, Anson Mount as Kevin, Ivana Michele Smith as N.D. survivor, Katie Doyle as EMT, Julius Ledda as EMT no. 2, Masayo Ford as nurse, David Ely as intern and Larry Wiss as anesthesiologist.     * 08/31 - A dialogue sample, taken completely at random, from Executive Producer and series co-creator Damon Lindelof's original script for the Lost season premiere: LOCKE: "You're lighter. I can belay you down and bring you back up just as easy. Shaft may be narrower down there, too." KATE: "You left out the part where you just wanna see if I'm gonna be eaten by something." Source: Oceanic-Air.com's mailinglist

    * 08/31 - What happened to young Walt (Malcolm David Kelley), kidnapped by The Others? Shannon (Maggie Grace) will spot him in the woods, but she'll have a hard time convincing her friends that she's not hallucinating. And as for what's in the hatch, we'll find out during the premiere, though Terry O'Quinn (Locke) and the other stars hinted that the revelation will only raise more questions. ''My initial reaction was 'That's not huge enough,''' O'Quinn says. ''But my second reaction was 'How could it be, with all the buildup?''' Fox is a bit more reassuring. ''It's gonna blow your mind,'' he promises. Then there's Monaghan’s explanation: ''The thing about this show is it could be a bright yellow banana walking around with strawberries, and you'd be like, 'Okay.' It could’ve been Henry Kissinger playing tennis with Marilyn Monroe, and you’d be like, 'Sure.' Anything makes sense on this show.'' Source: Entertainment Weekly

    * 08/31 - The season opener, "Man of Science, Man of Faith," a Jack-centered story, will introduce Desmond (to be played by Henry Ian Cusick), described as an avid daredevil who gets his kicks climbing the world's biggest mountains alone. Equal parts charismatic and gregarious and austere and zealous, it is unclear how Desmond will play into this season, but expect to see more of him as the story progresses. Source: FilmJerk.com

    * 08/09 - Jorge Garcia (Hurley) revealed: "They go rig right in with the creepy Twilight Zoneness and everything. It's all about goin' down that hole." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/05 - "It's on the level, of like, Locke in a wheelchair," Jorge Garcia (Hurley) says. "The great thing about it is you learn a little bit about what's in the hatch, and as you go through the first few episodes, more comes together, and you realize that it's a much more significant thing than it was at the start of the show." According to Dominic Monaghan (Charlie), we won't miss a beat. "I think between the end of the first season and the start of the second there's about 35 seconds," he said. "So, you're right in the midst of this action." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/15 - Their raft destroyed, Michael, Sawyer and Jin encounter another predator in the ocean. And on land, the hatch doesn't seem to be any safer. Nikki: Jolene Blalock. Source: TV Guide Online

    * 08/31 - While it will likely focus on one of the survivors of the raft, [the episode] will also bring Libby (Cynthia Watros) on to the scene as a regular. Libby was supposed to be in her late forties to early fifties (although Watros will turn thirty-seven on Friday), easy on the eyes, amicably maladjusted, and a compulsive liar so good at what she does, most people will not know she isn't what she seems. Libby may have been in the tail section of the plane, but will we ever really know? Source: FilmJerk.com

    * 08/18 - Expect flashbacks centering on one of the adult raft crew: either Sawyer, Michael or Jin. Source: Ain't It Cool News

Episode 2.03: Orientation

Airdate: October 5, 2005

    * 09/19 - Jack, Locke and Kate learn more secrets about the hatch. Meanwhile, after being beaten and taken captive, Sawyer, Michael and Jin wonder if their captors are fellow survivors or the dreaded "Others." Guest starring are Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Kevin Tighe as Cooper, Curtis Jackson as security guard, Katey Sagal as Helen, Roxie Sarhangi as Francine, Jeanne Rogers as moderator, Marvin Candle as Dr. Marvin Candle and Michael Lanzo as waiter. Source: ABC

    * 09/16 - Katey Sagal will guest-star on an episode of "Lost" early this season, but her role for the moment is as cryptic as the meaning of Hurley's numbers. The former "8 Simple Rules" star will be playing a character named Helen in the third episode this season, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 5. It seems more likely that she would appear in the show's flashback scenes; higher-profile guest stars were primarily used that way in "Lost's" first season. It also appears that the flashback for the episode, titled "Orientation," will concern Locke (Terry O'Quinn). Kevin Tighe ("Murder One"), who appeared last season as Locke's father, Cooper, will reprise his role. Beyond that, ABC is offering only the broadest of hints about the episode, saying Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Locke "learn more secrets about the hatch." The show's producers have said episode three contains a fairly major revelation about what's inside the hatch. Elsewhere, Michael (Harold Perrineau), Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) face a new challenge after escaping the raft. Source: Zap2it

    * 08/31 - [This episode] will introduce a new character named Helen who may become a recurring character. Helen is another woman in her forties who is is sexy, convivial, enchanting and a bit out of her rocker, with a dark side and a mean past. This episode is focusing on Locke. Source: FilmJerk.com

    * 08/31 - "...And Found" will be a Jin-centric episode, where we will be introduced to his general manager at the Grand Seoul Hotel, Mr. Kim, his beatnik best friend and one-time roomie, Tai Soo, and Jae Lee, an adversary of Jin's who has everything he does not, including a good education, charm and wealth.     * 09/20 - Writer/Supervising producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach reveals: We are currently developing a back story for Shannon - kind of an "origin story" about how she became the kind of person that she is, and I think it's going to surprise a lot of people. General Season 2 spoilers:

    * 09/20 - Writer/Supervising producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach reveals (note that this is not a summary of the spoilerish things he revealed): As secrets of the hatch become more and more apparent, they are going to have a profound effect on some of the key relationships on the show. We have some new survivors emerging from the other side of the island this year - and suffice it to say that they had it a little worse than the survivors we lived with last season. When the two camps meet, there is going to be a lot of shocking destiny at hand. We saw Ana-Lucia softer side in the season one finale, now we are going to show you a side of her that's going to be pretty stunning. Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje as the Mr. Eko has a harrowing, haunting back story. When we crash him and Michelle's characters against our extant ensemble, it's going to be a pretty explosive collision. We have some other new characters up our sleeves - as well as few that you might have seen before in some very unexpected places who will return for a little more Lost action. Source: The Official Lost Magazine, Issue 1, Nov/Dec 2005

    * 09/19 - From Damon Lindelof: First and foremost, we're going into the hatch right out of the gate, first thing in the premiere. Then, equally exciting, if not more exciting, we'll start to see what happens with our brave souls who went out on the raft and how they are going to get back to the island, which takes not one or two episodes but, in fact, eight. It is true [that Katey Sagal will appear on the show], 100 percent. [it's for] at least one episode, but hopefully more. We'll see. She plays an iconic character in the mythology of one of the other character's stories. [We will see flashback scenes for] at least one of [the survivors from the back of the plane]. We're only sort of stating on the record, for sure, that Michelle Rodriguez was in the back of the plane, but we haven't gone on record saying we're meeting any other survivors, if there were any other survivors from the back of the plane. But I think the show is sort of built around the idea of meeting somebody, making sort of a snap judgment about them and then gradually exploring their lives before the crash to get a better sense of who they are and what drives them, and I think every character we meet on the show will eventually get a flashback... unless they blow up first, in which case, we never get around to it. [Hurley getting a love interest is] definitely something we've thought a lot about and nothing that we wanna force. There are a couple women characters we're introducing on the island over the course of the season who we do not know who they're going to end up with. You immediately find out what's in [the hatch] in the first episode, but then that creates a lot of questions, a significant amount of which are answered a couple episodes later. We're doing 23 [episodes] this year. [Rose is] back for season two. You're gonna be seeing a lot of her. There is going to be a flashback story that fully explains the significance of all [Jack's] tattoos and puts it into the framework of what was happening in his life when he got them. You'll probably be seeing it in season two, but if not, very early in season three. Right now the plan is to do it this year. We're doing a Sun flashback story [soon this season]. I think we probably will [see Boone this season]. [23] is an important number in terms of the scheme of the show. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/13 - This thing in the Hatch can be called by two different words: One is three letters and starts and ends with two letters that are right next to each other in the alphabet. The other is seven letters long and starts and ends with the same letter. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/12 - More on the hatch: The word that begins and ends with the same letter is not a plural, and it is not SOULS or WINDOW. Here's another hint: One of the castaways has already seen this thing before. The others might have as well, but I know for sure that one of them, one of the MAAAAIIIIN ones, has seen it before. Jack's dad is not in the hatch, at least, not that I know of. Someone does see something in the jungle, and we might not see it again for a while. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/12 - Another tip on the hatch: Some of you were there this morning. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/06 - Locke gets a love interest. Source: The Fuselage

    * 09/02 - This season, Jack's mistrust of Locke will grow as he continues to question his motives and obsession in uncovering the secrets of the mysterious hatch. The fates of Sawyer, Michael and Jin will be revealed after their raft was blown out of the water by "The Others" - who at the end of last season kidnapped Michael's son, Walt. Sun will become less dependent on husband Jin and more autonomous, as she wonders whether he is still alive. Kate's back-story life as a fugitive will continue to be explored. Charlie will become even closer with Claire and her baby, Aaron, but the stash of drugs he found in a statue could seduce him back to a dark life of addiction. The cursed numbers that turned Hurley's life upside-down before the crash will continue to haunt him as he begins to uncover their meaning. Shannon will decide where Sayid fits in her life while she continues to grieve over the death of her brother, Boone, and develops a growing sense of unease about the raft passengers and their fate. In addition, we discover that there is at least one more previously unknown survivor of the crash of flight #815 - Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez, "Girlfight," "The Fast and the Furious") -- the mysterious woman Jack met at the Sydney airport bar. And Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Oz") joins the cast as a resident of the island whose story is one of the mysteries that will be explored as the season progresses. "Lost" stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as the mysterious island man, Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Maggie Grace as Shannon, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Malcolm David Kelley as Walt, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Dominic Monaghan as Charlie, Terry O'Quinn as Locke, Harold Perrineau as Michael and Michelle Rodriguez as Ana Lucia. Source: ABC

    * 09/02 - [During the shooting of a scene,] Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) looks out into the distance and says, ''They're back.'' (Who's back?) Jack (Matthew Fox) mentions the mysterious hatch he and Locke (Terry O'Quinn) blew open and says, ''We're not all gonna fit in there.'' (Why? What's in that thing already?) Bender, who's directing this episode, delivers instructions to extras that sound like a fortune-cookie truism: ''You guys only know what you know. And what you don't know is a surprise.'' [...] Who is going to go next? While Internet spoiler hounds say a female cast member will perish this fall, producers aren't talking. ''There will be more death,'' Lindelof says. ''But,'' Cuse adds, ''we've gotten to a place where we don't want to go on record like, 'Three actors are going to die.' It makes everyone really uncomfortable.'' Here's what the producers will say about upcoming episodes: The survivors will accept that they're not leaving the island anytime soon. That means deeper relationships — and some serious romantic entanglements. Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) and Claire (Emilie de Ravin) will get close, as will Sayid (Naveen Andrews) and Shannon (Maggie Grace). [...] Jin will try to reunite with Sun — and, yes, learn some English — while his wife eschews their conservative Korean roots and embraces her newfound freedom. Michael (Harold Perrineau) — who apparently makes it back to land even though the raft exploded — will focus on rescuing kidnapped son Walt (Malcolm David Kelley) from The Others. [...] Though Shannon will spot Walt in the woods with his captors early in the season, she'll have a hard time convincing her fellow castaways she's not hallucinating. We'll also meet at least one survivor from the back of the plane: Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez), who was introduced at the end of last season, as well as some other island dwellers whose origins are unclear (played by Titus' Cynthia Watros and Oz's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Backstories will further illuminate Jack's marriage, Sawyer's life as a con man, and Kate's criminal history. The tension simmering between Jack and Locke, meanwhile, will explode into an epic faith-versus-reason battle. [...] The producers and the cast really, truly, totally swear the audience will finally see what's in the damn thing during the premiere. ''There will be an enormous download of information about the hatch,'' Cuse says, ''but it will also suggest a whole set of new questions to ponder.'' (Oh, great.) Hurley, for one, will be forced to face the one thing he's been trying to avoid: ''The hatch is making him confront those tormenting numbers,'' says Jorge Garcia. ''But as far as what they mean? I still don't know.'' Source: Entertainment Weekly

    * 09/01 - The Raft Stuff Is "Gnarly": That's how Harold Perrineau describes the upcoming scenes for his group, which I hear take place beginning in the first episode. Word is, the first episode is on land, the second is on sea, and the third is back on land with a very cool reveal. It turns out all that water stuff is the last thing Harold wanted to do. Locke's Getting More Backstory: Terry O'Quinn is shooting another flashback episode. And once again, we'll be seeing Locke in a "different light." Jack Gets a New Love Interest: When asked if there might be a romance with new series regular Michelle Rodriguez, Matthew Fox tells me: "I think that there's probably plans for that. You know, they had a really cool first meeting in the airport, and I think for 40 days, Jack has thought that she passed away on the flight. So, when and how they meet and what that means to the both of them is very exciting." They're Going in the Hatch: "I've spent the past 10 days off and on shooting inside the hatch, and it's amazing," Matthew Fox says. "The first script blew my mind. Damon Lindelof's script. It's fantastic, and it obviously deals with what's in the hatch. And I was very, very pleased with what they did with it." Keep in mind that you see what's in the hatch in the first episode but won't understand it until episode three. Source: Kristin on E!Online [Note: Read Kristin's complete LOST coverage HERE.]

    * 09/01 - What's in the Hatch? Hint: In a way, it's something you've never seen before. But in a way, it's something you see every day and are probably seeing right now. Okay, another hint: It begins and ends with the same letter. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 09/01 - Series co-creator David Lindelof said Vincent "will play a big part" in the series' second season. Source: Pittsburg Live

    * 09/01 - "The second year is going to go deeper and deeper into where they are and where that's going to take them," [Matthew] Fox said of the show's characters. As for Fox's Dr. Jack Shepherd, the second season will bring on a search for spirituality. "Even though he is a very strict man of science, he's going to have to wake up to the reality of the world that he's operating in," Fox revealed. But don't assume all of the "Lost" clan will make it through to the end. "That's always going to be part of 'Lost,'" Fox insisted. "You are going to get attached to certain people, and you are going to lose them. That's the truth of this story." Source: ExtraTV

    * 08/31 - On the romance front, things will heat up between Claire (Emilie de Ravin) and Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), and between Shannon and Sayid (Naveen Andrews), while the arrival of Michelle Rodriguez's character will likely send Kate (Evangeline Lilly) out of Jack's (Matthew Fox) orbit, maybe toward Sawyer (Josh Holloway). The producers assure us that there will be ''more death.'' Source: Entertainment Weekly

    * 08/31 - Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's character is no longer Emeka. Producers are keeping the new, mysterious moniker top-secret. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

    * 08/29 - About the Lost death: Female. October (I think, at least that was the original plan). NOT at the hands of the “monster.” And also … another one bites the dust ... a male cast member is leaving the show for good. But this one WON'T be a death. I hear [there will be about] 5 to 8 [new characters], and some (most?) of them are buddy-buddy with Ana-Lucia, who’s living a harsh existence elsewhere on the island. I also hear that our raft friends will be separated from the rest of the bunch for the first third of the season, but they will be interacting with others (possibly The Others, or other others). Also, Kate is going to run into a bit of life-threatening peril … but you knew that already if you watched the clip on oceanicflight815.com. One of the storylines will leave you STOWked. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/25 - At long last, you'll find out what's inside the hatch, as will the three survivors who venture inside. "We made a bold choice," says executive producer Carlton Cuse. "It's something we ourselves felt was cool." Not to mention freaky and thrilling. As for the guys on the raft? "Those who survived are seperated from the main group for the first third of the season," reveals executive producer Damon Lindelof. So not everyone survived? Lindelof won't say -- he's more willing to discuss who's coming than going. Jack's wife, Sarah (Julie Bowen), returns in the premiere, as does his father. And at least two actors - Michelle Rodriguez and Oz's Adewale Akinnyoye-Agbaje - join the cast. Rodriguez reprises her role as Ana-Lucia, a passenger who crossed paths with Jack in the Season 1 finale. Her arrival on the island will turn the Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle into "a romantic trapezoid," Lindelof says. Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play Emeka, a Nigerian character living on the island. Hmmm... might he know something about that Beech-craft plane full of heroin and the bones of Nigerian drug smugglers? Source: TV Guide (Printed edition)

    * 08/23 - Cynthia Watros will play a newcomer to the island who, in her former life, was a therapist. More layers to her character will be revealed as the season goes on. Watros joins other recent cast additions to "Lost," including Michelle Rodriguez, who joins the second season as Ana-Lucia Cortez, another passenger on doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815. Also, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was recently added as the mysterious character Emeka, who suddenly appears on the island. Source: Variety

    * 08/22 - There are more new characters coming aboard. Two series regular are leaving the show this season that I know of. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/22 - Soap-grad Cynthia Watros is joining the cast of Lost this season as Libby, a mysterious character who may or may not have been in the tail section of Oceanic Flight 815 when it crashed last fall. Source: TV Guide Online

    * 08/18 - Damon Lindelof on new cast member Michelle Rodriguez: "We know she was sitting in the tail section of the plane, so we know that there was at least one other survivor of the crash who's been out there leading this sort of Tom Hanks-ian castaway existence by herself. [...] But I think people are really compelled to see what's been going on with her for the last 45 days. She's had her whole own second show going on, we just weren't watching it. So, when she joins the cast, she has two backstories: (1) everything that happened pre-crash, and (2) everything that happened between the crash and when we meet her. We're gonna tell that story in one awesome concept episode. I'm not gonna tell you when, but we haven't talked about it with anyone before you, so that'll be pretty kick-*buttocks*." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/18 - Yoon-jin Kim noted that Sun and Jin would still not be reunited by 2.2. Emilie de Ravin said Claire and Charlie are not making out by 2.2, and she doesn't yet know if a romance will develop between the two. Naveen Andrews confirms that Shannon and Sayid characters are still a couple as of 2.2. Lindelof says what lies beneath The Hatch will be explored in 2.1 and 2.2, but "What's really down there" won't become entirely clear to the survivors or the viewers until 2.3. Source: Ain't It Cool News

    * 08/12 - This season, Jack's mistrust of Locke will grow, as he continues to question his motives and obsession in uncovering the secrets of the mysterious hatch. The cursed numbers that turned Hurley's life upside down before the crash will continue to haunt him as he begins to uncover their meaning. Shannon will decide where Sayid fits in her life while she continues to grieve over the death of her brother, Boone, and develops a growing sense of unease about the raft passengers and their fate. Source: Touchstone TV season description.

    * 08/10 - From writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach: Danielle has been on the island 16 years, despite the fact that the translated French message is inconsistent on the "iterations". No nanobots, despite the tongue in cheek comments at Comic-Con. Rose is definitely coming back for S2. The "two plane" theory is WRONG - there is one plane, at least only one oceanic 815! Source: The Fuselage

    * 08/10 - Damon Lindelof: "Right out of the gate in the season premiere, the numbers become a driving and fundamental plot point of the second season. We plan to answer this season via flashback: Who is the woman Jack married? (Look for this to be addressed early on, since Julie Bowen flew to Hawaii last week to shoot an episode). How did Locke become wheelchair-bound? What exactly did Kate do to become one of America's Most Wanted? What was Hurley's prelottery existence like?" Also, Lindelof says that the mystery surrounding the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 - which was originally going to be solved in a minimovie on the first-season DVD - will be resolved this season. "By the finale of Season 2," he says, "you will know why the plane crashed." "We're not stupid," exec producer Carlton Cuse says of the looming triangle. "There's clearly chemistry between [Michelle and Matthew Fox]. Their [airport encounter] was not accidental." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

    * 08/09 - Dominic Managhan (Charlie) said: "Charlie and Locke are going to re-explore their relationship. They kinda started doin' that in the early part of the show. Locke kinda became Charlie's mentor a little bit. And I think Charlie's obviously gonna be struggling with the fact that there's now heroine on the island, and kind of a huge supply of heroine, so he has to deal with those demons. Also, the baby's gonna play a big part in his life, as is Claire. So Charlie's gonna start to actually contribute to the group a little bit more, I think." Jorge revealed: "We know that they're gonna find more people on the island." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/05 - Maggie Grace (Shannon): "We're going to find out what's in the hatch quite early in the season - in the first episode, actually. We're also going to find out more about Jack's marriage, and some of Shannon's backstory as well. We have a few clues - she was married, highly manipulative, that sort of stuff. And it's a possibility that Ian might come back for that [backstory]." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 08/02 - The female death won't be at the hands of the monster. Damon Lindelof: "What's in the hatch is so intense/cool/complicated that it actually takes three full episodes to fully understand it. Fortunately, these are the first three episodes of the show, so the wait is over!" Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 07/27 - Former "Oz" co-star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is stranded on the island alongside Michelle Rodriguez. Source: Zap2it

    * 07/25 - The person who'll die is a major character like Boone not like Arzt. I just got confirmation that a female is indeed biting it this season. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 07/25 - We will see what is in the hatch. This will change the way the way the islanders live. The question of the raft-people will get back to the rest of the stranded people will play over the first 7 or 8 episodes. The numbers will play an even more important role. The crash of the plane is explained before the season ends. Source: Statements at TCA

    * 07/19 - More screen time for Sun and Jin, I'm hearing. Rose will not die. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 07/12 - The female death is not going to happen until at least October, I'm told. I'm not aware of what will happen to Rousseau, but can tell you, that's not whom I'm talking about. ABC says Maggie's (Shannon) role on X-Men will not affect her role on Lost (a role she now it seems didn't get). Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 07/09 - Season 2 teaser updated with cast: The Golden Globe nominated drama returns for a second season where the remaining survivors of Oceanic Flight #815 struggle to break free from the clutches of the deserted island. The band of castaways discovers new mysteries and fall victim to the unexplained forces that lie in wait. Jack’s calm leadership and quick-thinking coupled with Kate’s cunning spirit gives the group hope for an escape, but even the most well-intentioned heroes have secrets. This action-packed adventure brings out the very best and the very worst in the people who are lost. Cast: Naveen Andrews: Sayid; Emilie de Ravin: Claire; Matthew Fox: Jack; Jorge Garcia: Hurley; Maggie Grace: Shannon; Josh Holloway: Sawyer; Malcolm David Kelley: Walt; Daniel Dae Kim: Jin; Yunjin Kim: Sun; Evangeline Lilly: Kate; Dominic Monaghan: Charlie; Terry O'Quinn: Locke; Harold Perrineau: Michael; Michelle Rodriguez: Ana-Lucia. Source: ABC

    * 06/28 - A female will get killed of, and it's not Rousseau. I know for sure Sawyer and Jin will be back, and I'm also hearing Michael and Walt will be back. But that's not to say that everyone will be back for the full season . As I'd mentioned, they all have clauses in their contracts that they can be written off at any time. Gulp. I've heard that Walt is not planning on coming back until a little later in the season ... I'm assuming he might be missing for a while. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 06/15 - With Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) turning up alive, the chances Rose' husband is alive too are pretty big. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

    * 06/14 - Quotes from Lindelof and Grillo-Marxuach at a Lost convention: We won't kill sawyer. The theory of all the survivors being dead is not true. The plane did not crash by accident, it crashed for a very specific reason. But he dismissed speculation that someone aboard the plane caused the crash. What's in the hatch will have an effect on Locke. The rear section of the plane - and additional survivors - will be discovered during the second season. The people who kidnapped Walt, the young boy, are the "others" on the island. Source: The LA Times

    * 06/14 - I believe Mira Furlan (Rousseau) will be back but so far, not full-season contract.... JIN IS ALIVE!!!!! And I hear he's getting an ever BIGGER part next season. one final note to those of you freaking out that Naveen Andrews is going to be written off: I really don't think Sayid dies. That is not the cast member I was talking about who's getting written off around October. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 06/07 - Josh Holloway will be back! I hear that first episode next season they are going DOWN the hatch, so hopefully we will finally SEE the light! Malcolm David Kelley will be back to work on Lost next season. But there are definitely issues with his rapid aging (remember, each season is only 40 days), so don't be surprised if a big twist is in the making. Someone wants of the show, and it's not certain it's a 'he'. Greg Grunberg's scene as the pilot was cut for time from the finale, but it'll appear on the dvd, coming out September 6. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 06/06 - Michelle Rodriguez has come aboard the second season of ABC's hit castaway drama, playing Ana-Lucia Cortez, another passenger on the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815. Source: Variety

    * 06/02 - Sharp-eyed viewers may have noticed something about the people on the boat, but if not, [Josh] Holloway says, "There were twins, which I don't know if you could tell. They were identical twins, which was really spooky. There again, that wasn't emphasized." Source: Zap2it

    * 06/01 - Remember the fellow passenger Jack met in the airport cafe prior to boarding the doomed flight? You know, the one played by Michelle Rodriguez in the May 18 episode? Well, there's a big - no, make that huge - twist coming in Season 2 involving her. I can't say more than that. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide

    * 05/26 - They survived on luck. They survived on instinct. But on the other side of the island, they will discover they're not the survivors they thought they were. Source: Oceanic-Air.com [Note: This is an ABC website. You can view the teaser containing those lines by going HERE and then clicking on the row numbers (numbers at the bottom of the seating plan) 4-8-15-16-23-42. Enjoy the ride!]

    * 05/26 - Harold Perrineau said that the pirates who took Walt were "The Others". He also confirmed that Walt has powers. Source: Jimmy Kimmel Live

    * 05/26 - Lindelof: The words that Boone heard are definitely, "We're the survivors of Flight 815." That's also what Boone said, so it's up to the extrapolation as to whether or not his own words were being bounced back to him. Or is that transmission coming from somebody else claiming to be a survivor of Flight 815? [He also added] "If the season finale is about what they do to open up the hatch, I think it'd be fair to say that Season 2, at least in the beginning, functions on the axis of what they find inside. And how that revelation changes things." Source: TV Guide Online

    * 05/23 - [There will be a death in October.] Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 05/18 - Harold Perrineau revealed that the voice on the other end of the radio communication Boone made in the other plane will be dealt with next season. Source: ESPN Radio

    * 05/17 - JJ Abrams reveals: "[season 2] is very much another chapter in the story, and it's one of those things where you really don't wanna say anything, but...they've been there for 40 days, and they've been pretty reluctant, for obvious reasons, to venture out too much. If the first 40 days was about their arrival and them realizing that they're going to be there for a while, I'd say the next 40 days is more about their establishing a sense of society and of more permanence, and there are going to be specific story points that will give them very specific objectives that will be part of the overall arc of the season next year." Damon Lindelof says: "One of the really cool things, to me, is that we are going to be introducing new characters to the show. And it'll just get out who we've cast, because we're gonna start shooting the show in July. I think people's default position will be, "Oh, they're all people who we just haven't met yet," sort of in the chorus of, you know, meat socks, as we call them, the people in the background... Maybe some of these characters will come from the chorus and maybe they won't, but word will start to trickle out over the summer about who's joining the cast of Lost, and, more importantly, who's leaving the cast." Jorge Garcia said: "I'm coming back, I think. I mean, I'm alive at the end of this season, so I assume I'm coming back. I'm not a guy who just disappears in the crowd." Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 05/16 - Matthew Fox on the "did Jack marry Sarah or not": Although some fans may wonder if Jack bolted right before saying the fateful vows, Fox has another idea. "I think people walked away from that," he says, "feeling that that they did see the full wedding ceremony, and that they are married. But the really cool thing was like, holy s**t, now they flash back, and we realize that Jack's never mentioned anything. He doesn't have a wedding ring on. He's never mentioned anything about a wife." "So, somewhere between three and four years, maybe five years, before we meet him on the plane as our hero, this guy was married to a woman that he absolutely adored. So what the hell happened in the interim? How did that come to an end?" "A lot of the story for next year on Jack will be about exactly that same thing. What happened to the relationship?" Fox also wonders about Jack's motivation for marriage in the first place. "There was that scene at the pool with his dad," he says, "where he said, 'Am I marrying her because I saved her life? Am I taking that idea of commitment so far that I'm actually confusing love and adoration with commitment and with following through on saving somebody's soul? Am I confusing that line?" "So he does enter into that with questions. He's clearly conflicted and then ends up making leaps. So we'll see what happens, why it all came apart." Source: Zap2it

    * 05/10 - Cocreator Damon Lindelof reveals that the transmission and its source will play one of the most important pieces of plot for season 2. Source: Entertainment Weekly

    * 05/07 - So far, the focus has been on only 14 of the 48 crash survivors, but that'll soon change. "The population of the island will be shaken up," Abrams says, revealing he's now casting new second-season regulars. "Not everyone will be coming back, and other people will be stepping up. Also, the survivors have explored almost none of the island, so next year becomes more mission-driven. And the inevitable fractious aspects of society-building begin to arise." Source: USA Weekend

    * 04/25 - Film actress Michelle Rodriguez ("The Fast & The Furious", "Resident Evil") will be joining the cast of ABC hit show "Lost" next season as a regular. Source: TV Guide Online

    * 04/18 - I THINK someone is dying early next season. And I've heard the person already knows because of contract negotiations going on, and is none too pleased and driving something of a hard bargain. Source: Kristin on E!Online

    * 04/08 - Early on, Jack found some skeletons and a pouch containing black-and-white rocks. Explain. ''The black-and-white stones have been a recurring theme in the show,'' says executive producer Damon Lindelof (e.g., Locke's favorite board game, backgammon, and the mysterious Black Rock). ''We know who those skeletons are, what their story was, and what they were doing with those stones. But that's a question we won't be answering this season.'' - - Charlie was hooked on heroin. Recently, Locke and Boone found heroin on a plane. Discuss. ''One of the things that has made Charlie's ability to kick the habit so easy is that he hasn't had any temptation,'' says Lindelof. ''Reintroducing temptation is part of our intent. The good news, for now, is that he doesn't know that the plane is out there.'' Source: Entertainment Weekly

The big "long-term-residence high-tech bomb-shelter/apartment" room at the bottom of the shaft.

And then there's this...

I've always loved the song that was playing in that room, but after hearing it in that context, I'll be creeped out whenever I hear it again.

I liked season 1 (The episodes I saw of it) and was looking forward to season 2. Wednesday's episode was good to be sure but my interest in the show faded a bit over the summer.

Perhaps I've just missed some key episodes but I found season 1 confusing and frustrating. The final episode contained one of the most upsetting scenes I've seen in some time:

Click For Spoiler
when the boy is snatched from his father off the raft as he screams for help. I found this to be very disturbing, especially as a cliffhanger where one must wait for months to find out what will happen (including the whole hatch business). I was also very irritated by the ER cliffhanger that featured a plot where a young boy ran away and was picked up by a hitchhiker in a final scene. I felt very manipulated in these instances. I chose to watch the ER opener, because I have watched this series for years, but did not feel like investing more time in a show (Lost) that seemed to revel in keeping the viewer upset, and literally in the dark, in many scenes. Maybe if I had seen every episode I would feel different.....

I am in the middle of watching the pilot episode. I can tell you now that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. And I con only hope that that large carnivorous thing is a dinosaur. That would make me buy the season.
