The Kelvans, because their galaxy is becoming unlivable, appraised the possibility of new conquests, but, because of the loss of their ship, they took possession of the Enterprise after have neutralized the crew, turning it into cubes. They taked human form, so no image of a real Kelvan is available. But assuming this form they also got human emotions and senses.
