Daniel Yoder was raised as part of the Terran sub-culture known as the Amish. He learned to live simply and to love his family, his community, and above all else to love and obey the word of the Lord. Then came his time to experience the world and he found something new to love. Space travel. With much soul searching and great reluctance he left the place where he'd spent over 20 years of his life and went to study at Star Fleet Medical. An avowed pascifist Daniel is also one of the best surgeons in the history of the fleet. Having asked God and Starfleet Command to put him where he will be of greatest use he's been assigned to the USS Hermes Trimegestus.

 

Now light years from Earth, Daniel is beginning to realize exactly how desperate and needy some of his fellow crew people are. When he left home to study medicine he promised his family he would continue to abide by the time honored precepts of his people. But that promise may turn out to be harder to keep than anyone realizes.
