The Enterprise saves passengers aboard a transport ship that is about to explode. Initially dumbfounded when the ship's cargo is beamed to the Enterprise rather than passengers, the four people who were saved - two from Ornara and two from Brekka - explain that the cargo is a cure for a plague that has stricken Ornarans for centuries. This cure can only be produced on Brekka so a symbiotic relationship has existed all this time. It is soon discovered that there is no plague. The so-called cure is instead a very addictive and powerful narcotic and the Ornarans are all addicted to it.

Ahhh good, a serious issue is handled by Star Trek and handled well.

Drug addiction.

Interesting idea. One alien race keeps another perpertually drug addicted simply for profit.

Sounds familar. We have that on Earth too. They are called "Cigarette Companies".

This episode gets a rating of 3
