BlueCrystal 0 Posted February 14, 2005 That's my feelings about UPN. They don't care about the millions that love and follow the series so I don't care to continue to watch the rest of their shows or prgrams. UPN made it clear that they can do without Enterprise and I say they can do without my viewing them. After May 13th when the last credit of Enterprise is given, I plan to ban that station from appearing on my television. I hope others will consider doing the same. HRH The KING 0 Posted February 14, 2005 If ENT was the only show you watched on UPN, then Paramount wouldn't be bothered much by a boycott from you, since ENT never really was successful in attracting a great deal viewers anyway. If you watched other shows on UPN, then boycotting the channel will needlessly punish those shows that have absolutely nothing to do with ENT and they could be cancelled too. BigHero6 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Outside of Enterprise, there was nothing else worth watching on UPN. When the show goes off the air, I will be boycotting the channel... because there isn't anything else to garner my interest. As for the other programs on UPN, they pretty much stank. If the network and it's shows go under... well, lets just say I won't be losing any sleep over it. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Outside of Enterprise, there was nothing else worth watching on UPN. When the show goes off the air, I will be boycotting the channel... Like I said, they cancelled the show because of low viewing figures, so if you don't watch any other UPN show, it won't matter to them. If the network and it's shows go under... well, lets just say I won't be losing any sleep over it. Well, I've never understood why Viacom needs TWO networks competing against each other. It already owns CBS. ENT would have failed regardless of where it was broadcast because IMO it just wasn't a very good show, but that being said, future Trek projects could gain from being shown on the CBS network and UPN should be dropped as a Viacom operation. They should just sell the network. But admittedly, having looked at the array of programming on UPN, aside from WWE Smackdown, they all look absolute garbage. Star Trek on UPN should end with ENT. The franchise is only hurt by being on UPN and being surrounded by crappy shows doesn't do it any good either. I have stated that Paramount have caused this weakening of Trek by poor decisions. This includes BOTH the creative side which has been lacking for some time now, and the business decisions such as placing their number one franchise on such a crap channel when it had CBS sitting there. Takara_Soong 4 Posted February 14, 2005 If you want to have an effective boycott it needs to be more than just UPN that is boycotted. Here is a link to the list of holdings of Viacom If any boycott were to be effective it should be against all of their holdings except watch Trek on Spike (either TNG, DS9 or movies) and go to Star Trek: The Experience. Stop watching CBS, stop watching Comedy Central, stop going to their movies, stop listening to their radio station and stop going to their amusement parks (other than The Experience as mentioned above). Boycotting UPN by itself won't have any effect.
Theunicornhunter 2 Posted February 14, 2005 Well The King, I disagree that ENT would necessarily have been a bad show on CBS because CBS has demonstrated they understand drama. And I feel it was direction/pressure from the suits at UPN that forced some of the plot devices and character direction that I felt spoiled ENT.
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 14, 2005 (edited) Possibly, but the bottom line is that Paramount make the final decision. They have been in charge of the franchise for a long time and the responsibility for the failure of ENT lies with them. It's possible it may have been better on CBS or even in First Run Syndication, ENT had a decent premise (like VOY) but it was squandered (like VOY until Jeri Ryan came along and saved the show). But, what's done is done. ENT is over and lessons need to be learned by Paramount. RE: Takara's strategy, boycotting everything connected to Viacom is a little extreme. I think the time is fast approaching for the Save Enterprise campaign to end. Just accept that ENT is gone, it didn't work. IMO, ENT is not worth taking your campaign of boycotts to such levels. except watch Trek on Spike AND watch World Wrestling Entertainment's RAW program, LIVE every Monday night on Spike TV. Edited February 14, 2005 by The King

Jack_Bauer 1 Posted February 15, 2005 AND watch World Wrestling Entertainment's RAW program, LIVE every Monday night on Spike TV. 303352 You're not serious are you? Because if you are your credibility just warped right out here. And let's keep that Galaxy Quest quote. It's perfect.

Theunicornhunter 2 Posted February 15, 2005 Jeri Ryan saved VOY?? So, King, what is your major beef with ENT? Was T'Pol's catsuit not tight enough. Didn't they rename VOY the Seven of Nine Show and Tell Hour when she joined?
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Jeri Ryan saved VOY?? Yes. When she arrived it boosted the show. Her character was a big improvement on the "Ocampan Elf" Kes. So, King, what is your major beef with ENT? Poor characters and stories. Was T'Pol's catsuit not tight enough. T'Porn was best suited for Playboy, not Star Trek. Didn't they rename VOY the Seven of Nine Show and Tell Hour when she joined? No. But it was hardly going to be called "The Neelix Hour" was it?

Jack_Bauer 1 Posted February 15, 2005 You're not serious are you? Very much so. Because if you are your credibility just warped right out here Why? 303396 You constantly post about the inferior quality of Enterprise and you endorse wrestling? You don't see the problem? Professional wrestling is perhaps the goofiest thing on TV aside from most reality shows (there are some good ones) IMO. It just seems odd. I can understand how you can say Enterprise is inferior to some of the other treks but you can't seriously say it's inferior to wrestling?

He Who Shall Not Be Named 2 Posted February 15, 2005 Well I for one plan on boycotting UPN after Enterprise goes off the air. Well, except for reruns of The Simpsons. Oh, and Everybody Loves Raymond once in a while. Will and Grace is sometimes funny - Grace is a cutie! And News Radio if they ever play that again. You know what? I LOVE UPN!! I LOVE UPN!! 303414 I notice that every series you've mentioned is in second run syndication. Are there no original first run series you watch on UPN other than Enterprise? If your TV market is anything like mine, you can get all of those series on a dozen different channels every night of the week.
HRH The KING 0 Posted February 19, 2005 That's why there was no point in creating UPN. Most of the shows can be seen elsewhere and the existing roster of programmes seem very weak, ENT included.
Theunicornhunter 2 Posted February 19, 2005 The King, wrestling apparently carries a different connotation here than it does in your country. I would never have associated wrestling (the tv kind not the competition kind) with a Trek fan because it has redneck connotation. Btw, England has a stereotype of being very proper - that too doesn't fit with the wrestling stereotype. Oh well, another challenge to my preconceptions.
