Takara_Soong 4 Posted January 27, 2005 TREK'S CONNECTIONS TO THIS YEAR'S OSCARS The grandaddy of awards shows, the Academy Awards, has announced its nominees for the February 27 event in Hollywood. As usual, there are some ex-Star Trek folks who have been nominated, as presaged by the Golden Globes and other awards. The Nominees with Star Trek connections are: Best Motion Picture of the Year – "The Aviator," written by "Star Trek Nemesis" scribe John Logan. ("The Aviator" led all pictures with nominations in 11 different categories.) Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen – John Logan for "The Aviator" Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role – Virginia Madsen for "Sideways" (Madsen was seen in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Unforgettable" as Kellin) Best Achievement in Visual Effects – John Dykstra, who was one of four people nominated for "Spider Man 2" (John was the Supervisor, special photographic effects for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Also nominatated for "I, Robot" was Joe Letteri, who worked on "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" as a computer graphics animator. The Academy Awards will be broadcast on February 27, live from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on ABC.
