The ears!

Recommended Posts

 In one episode of DS9, Nog said something about his, "first set of ears." Based on that statement, it would seem that Ferengi grow new ears, much in the way humans grow adult teeth.

Anyone know way? Do they have baby ears and then adult ears? Or do Ferengis periodically lose their ears and grow a new pair? :(

I think it's speaking metaphorically. Like 'ears' means something to ferengi, kind of like... *family jewels* means to men.

Hmmm... I don't know about that. I mean, it's a good idea, but I think whenn Ferengi speak about their ears, they're being literal. Of course, that's the way I've seen it. Hmm...

I just watched "The Nagus," and noticed that Nog's inner ear ridges (the outer-most one and the middle one) are close together, while Quark and Rom's ear-ridges (which are all equally separated) are different. The Grand Nagus, on the other hand, has an extra ridge.

Maybe the Ferengi do shed ears like humans lose teeth.

Actually Ferengi do shed their "baby" ears.

Young Ferengi children are often called "lobelings" before they've lost their first set of ears.

It's not like hew-mon teeth however.

Instead, it's more like a metamorphoses. The old ears are "shed" rather than "lost."

In other words there is never a point that a Ferengi child is lobe-less.

This is all confirmed in the Star Trek Encyclopedia.

Guest Emory

Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your
article seem to be running off the screen in Ie. I'm not sure if this is a format issue or something
to do with browser compatibility but I thought I'd post to let you know.
The design and style look great though! Hope you get the
problem solved soon. Thanks
