Sun Aug 15 20:13:04 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Welcome aboard everyone! I serve as the moderator during Trek-News-Talk. Terry Harris & Gisele La Roche are joining us tonight. They represent "The Official Campaign for a DS9 Movie."

Sun Aug 15 20:13:17 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Here's how the chat will work tonight:

• During the first part of the chat-- I'll ask our guests some general questions to get the chat started.

• During the second part of the chat-- all of you will take turns asking questions, giving suggestions for the campaign, or other type of input. I will send you a private chat message letting you know when it is your turn.

• **Please Wait Your Turn** When you're done with your turn [max of 3 questions or other type of input], please wait, and let others do so.

• Once everyone who wanted to participate was able to do so, the chat will be open to ask a few more questions and comments as a group (a free-for-all)....

Sun Aug 15 20:13:53 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Terry and Gisele, thank you for coming. :dude:

Sun Aug 15 20:14:15 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Terry & Gisele, your missions is to put DS9 on the big screen. What makes both of you want DS9 on the big screen? And as you probably both know there have been lots of reports about some kind of prequel movie... What are your feelings on that?

Sun Aug 15 20:15:56 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Well, as you probably all know, What You Leave Behind left a lot of loose threads behind and it would be great to see some tied up. There was a lot of potential for storylines.

Sun Aug 15 20:16:58 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:As far as the prequel movie goes, I just hope that if it is true, Paramount will think to include other crews but we're hoping we can change their minds.

Sun Aug 15 20:18:49 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I think that most fans want to return to the future of Trek and not have another prequel

Sun Aug 15 20:18:19 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:What are some of the possible threads, which you personally think a DS9 based movie could take off from?

Sun Aug 15 20:20:07 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:One that I would love to see is what happens to Bajor. Does it join the Federation or not? And I'd love for a follow-up to "In the Pale Moonlight"...maybe the Romulans could find out about Sisko's actions in that episode.

Sun Aug 15 20:20:49 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:The rebuilding of Cardassia, what happens to Jake and Kasidy, Odo and the Founders, Kira's new post, what happens to Quark, so many things

Sun Aug 15 20:20:50 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:That might also tie into "Star Trek: Nemesis"...but suffice it to say there is not a shortage of ideas!

Sun Aug 15 20:21:16 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Do both of you believe that all of the main actors/actress would agree to play on a DS9 movie? What about the DS9 reoccurring characters that might be essential to a possible movie plot?

Sun Aug 15 20:22:22 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Nana Visitor, J.G.Hertzler, Casey Biggs, Avery Brooks, Louise Fletcher, Andrew Robinson, Alexander Siddig and others have said they would return

Sun Aug 15 20:23:01 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Also, people like Jeffrey Combs and Rene Auberjonois have done some Enterprise

Sun Aug 15 20:23:43 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I believe that Ira Behr also said he would love to write for a movie should one be made

Sun Aug 15 20:24:02 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I haven't heard of one of the regular actors on the show saying that they would be against a movie so I'm definitely hopeful they would return.

Sun Aug 15 20:24:19 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Those that responded to the letters I sent were generally favorable for a movie

Sun Aug 15 20:25:02 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:The only one that seemed to think it was not a possibility was Marc Alaimo but he didn't say he would not return

Sun Aug 15 20:24:53 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:But if it never happens, then would both of you, personally, be satisfied with a movie that somehow pays some kind of special tribute to DS9?

Sun Aug 15 20:26:23 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I'd personally like a mini-series as I think it would do DS9 justice more so than a 2 hour movie. But yes, if a movie were made and DS9 was featured in some way, I'd be happy.

Sun Aug 15 20:26:41 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:As long as the movie didn't ignore DS9's contribution to the Star Trek universe, I think I'd be happy with it.

Sun Aug 15 20:27:07 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Would the general public accept DS9 (as it has TOS and TNG)?

Sun Aug 15 20:27:51 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:If it was a good movie, I think so but most likely it would appeal more to Trek fans

Sun Aug 15 20:28:06 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I think the general public will accept a good movie, first and foremost.

Sun Aug 15 20:28:29 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:I agree...How realistic do both of you think this goal is?

Sun Aug 15 20:28:55 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Well, I think if enough fans write to Berman, there's always a chance.

Sun Aug 15 20:29:30 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Also, there are side effects. For instance, Enterprise featured 5 DS9 stars

Sun Aug 15 20:30:12 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Do you think that was the result of the campaign?

Sun Aug 15 20:30:28 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:If a hybrid movie were made, DS9 would not be overlooked so easily I think what with the responses they've had from the fans ie. the petition and postcards and letters

Sun Aug 15 20:30:59 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I think it helped

Sun Aug 15 20:32:02 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:There's really no way of knowing if the campaign *actually* got the 5 DS9 stars on Enterprise

Sun Aug 15 20:31:41 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:The large & very devout fan-base of DS9, to me has always stood out slightly apart from the mainstream ST fan-base. I'm not suggesting that it would have an impact on the success of such a movie, but it has always been interesting to compare the fan-bases. What do both of you think?

Sun Aug 15 20:31:57 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:And on this topic------- What makes both you, personally, one of those devout fans of DS9?

Sun Aug 15 20:32:47 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I think there's definitely something special about DS9 fans, or Niners as some of us like to be called.

Sun Aug 15 20:33:12 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I got hooked to the show, plain and simple and would love to see the characters again.

Sun Aug 15 20:33:50 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:What do you think that is, Terry?

Sun Aug 15 20:33:59 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I'm a huge fan of DS9 because, even though it didn't do as much literal exploring as the other series did, it by far explored the human condition the most.

Sun Aug 15 20:34:56 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:The Niners I know on several websites I visit are very tightly knit and are very dedicated to the series.

Sun Aug 15 20:35:00 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:And it explored the Trek species ie. Klingons, Cardassians, Bajorans, Vorta, Jem'Hadar, Romulans, Ferengi, etc.

Sun Aug 15 20:35:46 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:In my view---I would rather see a TV mini-series before any kind of DS9 movie. (It is nothing against seeing a future feature film. I think that's fine idea.)...But...

Sun Aug 15 20:35:52 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:One of the great things about DS9 was all of its on-going storylines & complexities, and because of that, I believe a mini-series would produce a better quality show. That's what's more important to me.

Sun Aug 15 20:36:15 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I agree

Sun Aug 15 20:36:36 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I agree with you, a mini-series is also a great way to showcase DS9's strengths

Sun Aug 15 20:36:55 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:And that's why we are asking fans , when they send their letters or postcards to ask for both a movie and mini-series

Sun Aug 15 20:37:26 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Do you think a mini-series would be more likely or less likely to happen (versus a movie)?

Sun Aug 15 20:37:51 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:At this point, I think a mini-series is more likely because of the prequel idea that's going around at the moment.

Sun Aug 15 20:38:01 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:That's true

Sun Aug 15 20:38:07 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I think more likely as it would be less expensive and be more accessible to the fans

Sun Aug 15 20:38:14 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:What can people do if they want to support your group's goal? ....And what are some of the things the campaign has done to get the message out to Paramount?

Sun Aug 15 20:39:14 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I've written letters to the stars and have gotten some responses. I've also promoted the campaign on newsgroups, mailing lists and at TrekToday, Trekweb and the Great Link

Sun Aug 15 20:39:28 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:We started with an online petition 4 years ago, but after a while we realized we needed to send letters to so we've been urging people now to send letters in and to spread the word about the campaign at conventions.

Sun Aug 15 20:39:57 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Also Terry has done great work on Trek bbss

Sun Aug 15 20:41:01 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:At one point, the sci-fi channel in the States mentioned our campaign and signatures for the petition grew greatly after that

Sun Aug 15 20:40:40 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Okay :dude: , thanks...I appreciate it very much. Let's move on to the next part of the chat...

Sun Aug 15 20:42:03 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:Have any story ideas been thrown around ? Getting Sisko out of the Celestial Termple is a must!

Sun Aug 15 20:43:06 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:There are so many possibilities for a movie or mini-series. Lots of ideas out there

Sun Aug 15 20:43:31 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:The return of Sisko would be necessary I think

Sun Aug 15 20:43:44 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:Not sure a mini series could happen while Enterprise is still on..What do you think ?

Sun Aug 15 20:44:41 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Good point but it could still happen I think as people want to return to the future. I suspect most people would like a hybrid movie or mini-series featuring all the Trek series save for TOS

Sun Aug 15 20:45:10 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:Yes, I hope it does happen..

Sun Aug 15 20:45:18 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:via our campaign, people can ask Berman for that too

Sun Aug 15 20:45:30 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I agree with Gisele. A mini-series event set in the 24th century could actually complement Enterprise, the 22nd century series.

Sun Aug 15 20:48:18 2004:Fleet_Captain_Rick_Alverado [0/] Msg:Deep Space Nine is my favorite Star Trek series. But I think that if a DS9 movie was made by b&b, it would not be as great as a DS9 movie deserves to be. Do you agree or disagree, and who do you think should be put in charge?

Sun Aug 15 20:50:11 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Ideally, I think Ira Behr or Ron Moore should handle a DS9 movie as they had a lot to do with the success of the show.

Sun Aug 15 20:50:28 2004:Fleet_Captain_Rick_Alverado [0/] Msg:Also I am a fan ofStar Trek novels. There are DS9 novels that continue the story after the end of the series. And a movie would most likely contradict these novels. This would upset alot of fans. What are your views on this?

Sun Aug 15 20:52:11 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:We had a chance to talk with Marco Palmieri, who is the editor of the Relaunch novels, and he told us he would actually be first in line to see a DS9 project. I love the novels as well, of course, and would hope they incorporate some of that into the movie

Sun Aug 15 20:52:27 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:There are a lot of stories that could be written without interfering with the novels

Sun Aug 15 20:52:40 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:That is also true.

Sun Aug 15 20:54:19 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:If the next movie is a prequel, it's possible that the one after that will be on DS9 or most likely will feature all the series. Our campaign is there to make sure they don't overlook DS9

Sun Aug 15 20:57:39 2004:Miroslav [0/] Msg:The worst part of "What You Leave Behind" (in my opinion), was separation Kira and Odo. I would like see them reunited. I also like to see Riker and USS Titan in DS9 movie/miniseries

Sun Aug 15 20:59:39 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I would like to see Kira and Odo reunited too Miroslav

Sun Aug 15 21:00:01 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Yes, the Kira and Odo relationship was one of my favorites on the series too.

Sun Aug 15 21:00:57 2004: Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:What do you think about the prequel? Should they scrap it in favor of a DS9 movie. Personally, I think we should be happy for any Star Trek movie at this point especially an original one

Sun Aug 15 21:02:02 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Well, if tptb decide on a prequel, I think we should all support it. After all, the success of the next movie will determine whether there will be any more to come after it.

Sun Aug 15 21:04:53 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:You say you think fans want a return to the future of Star Trek. In a sense, shouldn't we embrace something different than that because we've been watching TNG era Star Trek for 15 years +. Shouldn't prequels containing undiscovered settings be embraced?

Sun Aug 15 21:06:24 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:(if you can't tell... I'm all about Enterprise - a Star Trek prequel)

Sun Aug 15 21:07:33 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Now that you mention Enterprise, it may be a good idea to have the movies and the series set in different centuries for a little variety.

Sun Aug 15 21:07:51 2004:Miroslav [0/] Msg:What you think about Borg-based DS9 movie? For example, after the large borg fleet destroy large part of Dominion and crippled Great Link, Odo escapes to the Alpha Quadrant to warn Federation and their allies on the upcoming Borg invasion. Aftter he returns

Sun Aug 15 21:08:47 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:That's ok, but for the record I'm glad DS9 developed its own villains instead of relying on others. But to each their own, right?

Sun Aug 15 21:09:00 2004:Nevin [0/] Msg:I, for one, have seen enough of the Borg.

Sun Aug 15 21:09:06 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:In your mind, what about DS9 would make it a better choice for a movie than Voyager?

Sun Aug 15 21:11:18 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:The fact that DS9 was set on a station might be a little different for movie audiences who are used to seeing "ship movies", for one thing. But also, DS9 is simply next in line to carry the torch, I'm not against a VGR movie as long as it comes after.

Sun Aug 15 21:11:42 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:Okay, that sounds like a good reason to me!

Sun Aug 15 21:12:47 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:I'm just worried that trek fans who have not watched DS9 much would not understand the intricacies of a DS9 movie and as a result, the movie would not have a strong enough audience to justify making it. How do you think this issue could be resolved?

Sun Aug 15 21:14:46 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I think one of the ways to resolve it would be to have a movie trilogy instead of just a two-hour thing. It seems the better way to go about it. But my favorite idea is it being a TV mini-series where the inticracies you mentioned can be better explained.

Sun Aug 15 21:15:32 2004:Nevin [0/] Msg:I apologize if this was asked before I came, but in the possibility of a DS9 movie, how would Sisko take part? Given that he's a Prophet now.

Sun Aug 15 21:17:20 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:I'm not entirely sure he is a Prophet. He can live in the wormhole, but it doesn't necessarily mean he can't leave. He made a promise to Kasidy he would return, so that also indicates he'll come back.

Sun Aug 15 21:17:54 2004:Nevin [0/] Msg:That's true, he did. It's been a while since I've seen the end of ds9.

Sun Aug 15 21:18:16 2004:Nevin [0/] Msg:Perhaps some new threat would cause him to leave and help.

Sun Aug 15 21:18:55 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:Perhaps, his time in the temple is too prepare him for his biggest task

Sun Aug 15 21:19:10 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Yes, and I think there are still a lot of threats in a post-war Alpha Quadrant.

Sun Aug 15 21:19:43 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:For sure

Sun Aug 15 21:20:19 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:I want to thank both of you for coming --- I appreciate it very much. Also, I am very sorry for all of the glitches. I know the chat didn't run exactly smoothly, to say the least. :lol .... Terry, Gisele, any final comments?

Sun Aug 15 21:21:16 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Thanks for letting us be here! DS9 is a favorite topic of mine, so glitches or not, it was still interesting. -_-

Sun Aug 15 21:22:12 2004:Captain_Bolivar [0/] Msg:Well I'd like to thank you for coming too! It's been cool!

Sun Aug 15 21:22:21 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:I'm on my sons computer because mine just won't work properly for some reason

Sun Aug 15 21:22:54 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:hmmm..Well thanks for coming and chatting with us about DS9...

Sun Aug 15 21:23:05 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:It was fun..

Sun Aug 15 21:23:10 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Well, sorry I've missed some of it

Sun Aug 15 21:23:20 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:You're welcome Captain Bolivar, maybe I'll visit one of your future chats sometime. -_-

Sun Aug 15 21:23:32 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Anyhow,it was very nice of you to welcome us here

Sun Aug 15 21:23:40 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:That would be great Terry

...

Sun Aug 15 21:23:44 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Thanks again. It was fun. We'll do it again! -_-

Sun Aug 15 21:23:56 2004:Terry_Harris [0/] Msg:Bye!

Sun Aug 15 21:24:08 2004:Gisele [0/] Msg:Bye and take care!

Sun Aug 15 21:24:14 2004:master_q [0/] Msg:Good night

Sun Aug 15 21:24:17 2004:Fleet_Captain_Rick_Alverado [0/] Msg:thanks for coming, and good luck with your campaign

Sun Aug 15 21:24:28 2004:spacetigger [0/] Msg:Bye and good luck..
