The whole idea of relativity was helped brought to life with the false concept of this Galilean (and other Newtonian) set of rules. The Michelson-Morley experiment helped set the course of relativity to replace classical physics thinking. In truth, Galileo was the first to even look at some kind of concept of frames of references. If I’m in a car moving at x speed, then I’m relative to that system. I throw a ball up into the air. The ball doesn’t fly through the window it falls down relative to its system. So in a strange way Galileo in fact touched on some elementary concepts of relativity.
