Vulcan IDIC 0 Posted April 29, 2004 (edited) I thought that this was an interesting article about the use of cold fusion as an energy source. What do you think about this? scaleman 0 Posted April 29, 2004 I think sonofusion is a plausible idea/design, but i find it disheartening that one of the review papers requires a 100% reproducibility, which is hardly possible, let alone fair. From what i've read, it sounds like just about anyone could make this concept and test it themselves, if they had access to deuterium of course: The researchers filled a beaker with room-temperature acetone, a common solvent found in nail polish, and laced it with deuterium. The liquid was then bombarded with ultrasonic waves, which caused bubbles in the acetone to cavitate, first expanding and then violently collapsing, the latter producing compression shock waves inside and outside each bubble. Moving at the speed of sound, the researchers said, some of these shock waves collide in the bubbles' centers, resulting in very high compression that fuses atoms of deuterium and releases heat energy at temperatures possibly equal to the sun.
