  1. I was never good with languages....

I took spanish and passed the course by the skin of my teeth...

then promptly forgot almost everything... :tear:

my girlfriend volunteers at a local school for handicapped and retarded children, and she learned american sign language...

I've tried to learn that from her, just for fun,but i stink at that too...

I guess I'll just keep speaking Missouri (american) english,y'all....

    :(

  2. Well, Great-Great-Grandfather being in his 70's about 90 years before Kirk.  I think I finally see VBG's justification for adding an extra "Great" on.  My question is this: Will the producers think to do this?  What if they just call him Kirk's grandpa? They'll probably call him something like "something Kirk" and just have him be Kirk's ancestors and let the fans sort out which generation he is. :tear:

sounds like the best solution to me...

yeah, just call him "something" Kirk and make it clear that he is James T's ancestor, and let the fans sort out the details themselves...

    :(

  3. ha, doesnt that always happen? i think we need more main character deaths (soz about the morbidity).

I would have preferred losing a main character,to have kept that cute betazoid conn officer around...what was her name?Stadi? :tear:

If I did live in the Trek/TNG universe I think I just might relocate to Betazed...

    Grrrrr....

    :(

  4. I would've enjoyed seeing the younger crew members hanging out (off-duty) in a futuristic nightclub like the one Obi-Wan and Anakin go into on Star Wars:Attack of the Clones....

I mean,Riker likes to sit in his room and listen and watch holograms of tiny beautiful women playing harps or something,or hanging out in a smokey jazz club...BORING! :(

Let the crew live a little!Sheesh!

    :tear:

  5. Ah,the big,bad inter-racial kiss episode...

I loved it (I've read that originally Spock was supposed to kiss Uhura, but that William Shatner threw a fit until they allowed Kirk the honor....can't say i blame him)...

    Freaky episode,but fun... :tear:

  6. I think the Orions were a larger threat earlier in Federation history and by the time of TOS they had pretty much been beaten back and bested by the Starfleet...

I'm sure at some point they probably conducted raids against Federation settlements and were a threat to commercial shipping...

maybe Enterprise will give this race more depth and history... :tear:

  7. Very bizarre episode, but also a very enjoyable episode...

    almost twilight zone meets TOS...

I would've enjoyed learning more about the aliens here who tried so unsuccessfully to frighten and entrap our heroes...

    :tear:

  8. Yep.That's her...

that song is on one of the Star Trek cd's....don't know which, but I've heard it before at a music website.

    :(

Oh,(stupid me),roguedawg already told you this!I suppose I should start reading all the replies to topics before I post!Doh! :tear:

  9. I didn't want Kirk to die at all....

was there really a reason he could not have helped save the day and either re-entered the Nexus with Picard's help,or "borrowed" a shuttle and sailed away into the unknown like Scotty?

I think it was plain mean-spiritedness on certain people's behalfs to kill off Kirk. :tear: I hate his death scene! :(

  10. A lot of the folks here have spotlights on their trucks,so the Starlite has these games on-screen before the show where you chase these little gremlin things with your spotlights...kind of dumb,I guess, but still a little fun,too...

The Starlite's main lure is the food...the snackbar sells a mean cheeseburger... :tear:

  11. I read quite a few of the TOS novels (and other Trek paperbacks)...

I trade at a used bookstore, where after I've read one book I exchange it for a new one,and so on...

if I really like the story I'll just buy the book and keep it.

    :tear:

  12. This episode made me furious...

had I been Spock,I would have had every member of that away crew up on charges of insubordination the second we were back on board Enterprise. There was no excuse for the way those crewmen spoke to and reacted to Spock's leadership.

In fact,I dislike this episode so much for those crewmembers callous disregard for Spock's authority that i rarely watch it even when it comes on tv....

still,I liked the giant furry monster. :tear:

  13. I had such high hopes for Tom Paris...

when he showed up he was a smarta**,big talker,cocky,... :tear:

The fact that the braggert was every bit as good a pilot as he said he was, only made you dislike him more...

but I liked that trash-talking,swaggering Paris. How he became such a model Starfleet officer,I'll never know....

I loved Captain Proton,I enjoyed his friendship with Harry Kim,and I thought that he and B'elanna made the best couple in Star Trek, they seemed more "right" for one another than any other Trek pairing,ever....

I wanted him to butt heads with authority more, make decisions of questionable judgement, and maybe even pose a threat to Voyager as a man who would sell out to the highest bidder (but never do that...)

    I voted for Paris.

  14. Star Trek:Voyager had a far more promising start than all of the other Trek series, except for TOS's "The Cage".

I though,"Great, here is a Starfleet crew stranded in the middle of unexplored space...supposedly Borg space, and they have no one but one another to lean on when trouble calls..."There would be strange new worlds to explore, exotic alien civilizations to encounter, new threats to overcome...

but the show never really delivered on those things to any great extent..

and after Seven of Nine showed up,Voyager went Borg crazy, and began to focus 99-percent of the episodes on Janeway,Seven, and The Doctor...

I thought the final episode was just so weak...it seemed like a rushed writing job,and so many of the things in that episode (Chakotay and Seven, for instance, made no sense!).... :tear:

Voyager began with a bang and ended with a whimper...too bad.

  15. My impressions of Star Trek:Voyager are generally favorable.

The writing could have been stronger, some of the characters (like Chakotay and Neelix)could have been focused upon just a little bit more...

I mean,Neelix was supposed to be Sacagewea to Janeway and Chakotay's "Lewis & Clark",and the next thing I know he's a cook whose only advice ever seems to be,"Oh,pick that planet..it has a wonderful root for stew" :(

Chakotay's native american heritage was touched upon, but never explored in any great detail, also we didn't see him in enough situations where his natural leadership abilities and Starfleet training were brought forward...

Still,Voyager was watchable.....most of the time....

    :tear:

  16. If I designed a hologram, say a personal assistant for whatever I need...  I'd design him so that he knows he's a hologram.  I'd also give him the kind of programming that allowed VOY's Doctor to grow from a talking tricorder in terms of personallity to a fully fleshed out sentient being.  When my hologram became fully sentient, I'd give him the option of pursueing his own life beyond being my personal assistant.

I'd program the hologram to know and accept its place as my personal assistant.I would not, however, allow its personality to develop enough to become sentient. My hologram is basically a machine like a combine, nothing more or less.A tool to be used to help me.

  17. My dad and Uncle John both swear they saw one the year I was born, while they were out hunting in western Tennessee... :(

They are known for their tall tales,but...they seem deadly serious about this one...

    I wonder :tear:
