  1. Well happy birthday Star Trek. It doesn't matter how sad or geeky or nerdy a lot of people see ST, the fact that it still has so many dedicated fans (old and new) after all this time says an awful lot about it. How many other television shows have had this many years of adoration and success , five spin off series and ten feature films (so far)? Answer: none but Trek.

  2. How about William?

It is popular but it's a classic, there are so many different possibilities for nicknames and variations.

Plus he'd be in good company with Shatner and Riker. Not to mention William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, William Wallace, William the Conqueror etc.

I'm slightly biased as it's my name too.

  3. I don't believe in all these conspiracy theories. Politics isn't really fair, of course people pull strings, brown nose and get themselves elected through the old boy network but that's as far as it goes.

On a side note: At first I wondered what this poll was about as my mind immediately assumed it meant the shadow cabinet and that made no sense.

  4. I remember helping to build an airplane at school (I never found out whether the school finished it or not) and we used metal and wood in that, I can't see why this couldn't be the same.

As for the inertial dampeners, maybe it's because they were naturally attaining warp speeds rather than artificially inducing them that something happened to allow them to not die a squishy death. Warp speed is technically impossible anyway so why not? I know I'm seriously reaching here.

I still have a problem with the take off and landing aspects, however, I still enjoyed the episode.

  5. Same here: Classical (particularly baroque), folk, indie, pop, rock, country, metal, easy listening, world, blues, jazz...any section in a record store, chances are I have something from it.

As an aside: I always find it interesting that people will happily list sub-genres of just about every other type of music but rarely do with classical.

  6. I remember someone at school trying to tell me that Trekkie was the American name for a Star Trek fan while Trekker was the British name for it. I'm pretty certain the person in question wouldn't count themselves as either so I'm happy to question the validity of that claim. I've always been happy to be a Trekkie.
